Hi all, its time for me to renew my ESTA which i have tried to do online, however when i enter my passport details it comes up with the error of passport issuance date is more than 11 years from the passport expiry date. and wont let me move any further in the process. I have never experienced this problem on previous applications of filing an ESTA with this passport so its all new to me.. Whats the best way to go around this? i have tried calling the CBP but its constant hold. I should mention i carry a full british passport.

I will be travelling 27th Nov-11th Dec and my ESTA is up on the 14th Dec so not too much of a problem if i don't have it but as i'm going through my K1 process i dont want to give them any reasons to stop my entry visiting my fiance.

Anyone else ever run into this problem?

If your ESTA expires on December 14, then you’re fine. It only needs to be valid for the arrival date because it is merely a pre-clearance to allow you to present yourself at the border for inspection without holding a visa. The I-94 determines how long you can stay (in your case, 90 days).

But I have news for you - no entry is ever guaranteed to visitors. The ESTA does not guarantee entry and having a brand new shiny one will not have any effect on the officer’s decision to allow or deny your entry when you get to the border. Your last sentence suggests you believe you are guaranteed entrance when in fact you have a major reason that could deny you, a love interest in the USA.

As an aside, because it always puzzles me, why are you doing the K-1? Why not just get married on your visit (can be very quick, cheap and simple) and then do a CR-1? There are so many disadvantages to a K-1 that I’m genuinely curious as to why so many VWP folks still pursue this path.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Thanks for that. I know that the ESTA does not guarantee entry in the USA i just don't want there to be any reason for the CBP agent upon arrival to deny me entry,

We are doing the K1 because my fiance is an idiot and didnt want to listen! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

How can this be with a maximum passport validity of 10 years? Are you entering the dates wrong?

But there *is* reason for them to deny your entry. You’re not entitled to be admitted. Every single visitor has at least one reason to be denied: they have no automatic right to be here.

Hopefully your fiancé has plenty of money to support you and your healthcare through months and months of unemployment, hopefully you have nerves of steel to survive it, and fingers crossed it doesn’t harm your career development too much.

That was the only conclusion I could come to.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Well up until a few years ago they still added any left over time from your previous passport to a renewal. So no i am not entering the dates wrong.

I am also on another forum nothing to do with visas and i'm not the only person having this problem, apparently its a website glitch which has been noted and will be fixed in a few days time.
