There's a way to engage with a message without resorting to mockery or jeers. In my opinion, it's a mark of bad breeding to be quite so offensive. I'm looking at the language that you are using, and it's so charged with disdain and the very kind of hysteria you accuse others of. Why not use reason without resorting to insults and blanket statements?

Probably not. The first thing all time travelers learn is not to get caught on camera. The second thing learned is if and when you do mess up, you go further back in time and fix the first mistake. Eventually, there is never any evidence.

Seriously though, when you are part of a relatively homogeneous population (and most of us are), there will be many people who look similar. Happens to most people sooner or later. Any decent conspiracy theorist should remember Occam's razor still generally applies.

I have been mistaken for Kevin James at times

I think you're putting too much effort into getting offended.

If someone tells them it is offensive, they should reflect on why it could be offensive to others and modify their words accordingly. See, I mean, looking at that other thread, I think there were ways of getting across the message I think he was aiming at without expressing it in a way that was clearly offensive to others. A lot of it is framing. On the other hand, patently racist/sexist/bigoted speech isn't something I'd encourage in my children, if I have any.

When you put yourself out there which she did , she is not off limits

Even Gollum was once a strapping young hobbit.

Anyhow, I see no reason to go easy on someone who comes to my country and province in the middle of an election and tries to convince people to destroy an industry that's put food on this family's table. If she wants to play adult and try to affect my life as an adult and provider for my children, face the music as an adult. While invoking the simultaneous arguments that we should listen to Greta like an adult, and at the same time she's off limits to mockery for her crazy views because of her age, might work in the identity politics circles, it doesn't work anywhere else.

Agree. If you dont want to play stay off the field

Not really. I don't tend to post screeds. :)

I don't think she's off limits -- never said this -- but I do think that there are ways of discussing and engaging with her message that don't resort to personal insults. I think you can even say, I don't like her delivery, but it's just tacky and gross to mock a child for her appearance. We're all adults here (at least I am, last time I checked) and we can do better.

Adults have a sense of humor and can cope with people having different ones.

You just like rabid football fans. Dont like it when the call doesn't go your way. After further review my call still stands.

No one on the left had any problem attacking the young man falsely accused of confrontation with the old Indian dude

Hold up. I didn't say anything about him. I also don't recall anyone attacking him because of his appearance, which was Layla's original point. For someone who claims to be middle of the road, you surely like to make everything about left and right. Bottom line is, there is no reason for adults to make fun of a kid's appearance. It might be expected from other children, but part of becoming an adult is knowing better than that.

Hi there! I don't think you actually saw what I posted, but that's okay. I am expressing my opinion that yours is tacky, and you can disagree with me. :)

Exactly. This isn't so much about her message -- I think we SHOULD talk about what she's saying, and disagreeing about its content and delivery is to be expected in the rough and tumble of being a public figure -- but that as a society, we don't make fun of what kids look like. There's a reason the wagons circled when people -- grown ups, reportedly -- made fun of the Bush twins when they were underage, or the Obama girls, or now with Barron Trump, especially for what they look like. Being a kid is awkward enough without adults telling you you look funny. We don't do this because we're better than this. Supposedly.

She is not a child, she is a political pawn.  Shame on her parents for allowing it.

She is demonstrably a child. She is under 18. Attack her message, don't attack what she looks like unless you want to look like you don't have anything to attack her on substantively.

It's Friday night -- let's have a nice glass of box wine together. :P I'm headed home, want me to pick anything up on the way?
