Hi everyone,

We recently became DQ and we are waiting for our interview date. Is this something that we can schedule ourselves, or do we have to wait for NVC scheduling? Just wondering if there is anyway to plan ahead. DQ date was Nov 6th.

If this is a spouse visa interview, NVC will pick the date.  K1 fiancés pick their own date in London.

Hi, I checked the IR-1/CR-1 instruction which says you need to book your medical exam first and an interview will not be scheduled until the medical result is received by the embassy (see part 2)... I note that the information was a bit outdated as it was put together in 2014, and I know someone who received interview date before the medical exam was scheduled. Do you have any idea whether we should have the medical exam done first or should we wait until the interview date is received? Noting that I did see this on the NVC page:

Only AFTER you receive your appointment date, should you complete your medical examination, along with any required vaccinations.  The medical exam must be completed BEFORE your visa interview.

Truly appreciate your reply!

Thank you! Will they send an email, or a letter in the mail with the interview details?

My DQ is Nov 1st, have not received an interview date. I am F2A but since PD is current now, should be under the same timeline under IR-1/CR-1. I checked the timeline under UK embassy, most recent update was the interview dates received on Nov 14th (for DQ on OCt 25, Oct 31, and Nov 1)...

Two important things to note:

  1. Any guide written by members and posted on Visa Journey in 2014 will be very out of date. Many things have changed in London including the location of the embassy itself.
  2. The guide you referenced is for Direct Consular Filing (DCF) where the petitioner resides in the United Kingdom with their beneficiary spouse. They file their petition to the USCIS office in London, rather than to lockbox in the US .Their case never goes to the NVC for processing or interview assignment. DCF cases are processed much like K1 fiances who also skip NVC. They pick their own interview dates.

Your London instructions on the embassy website are here https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/how-to-apply-2/

BUT notice the first half of the page is addressing DCF cases. Scroll down until you see

Case processed by National Visa Center (NVC)
If your petition was approved by USCIS in the United States and your application was subsequently processed by NVC, they will contact you with your interview appointment date.

I don't know because I don't really follow NVC these days. It used to be a letter but that could have changed. There is an NVC forum for NVC questions.

Thanks for the reply. Your interview date is on Dec 6th? I thought its always more than a month away from the date you get your notification? Did you request to expedite the process? thanks!!

From what I have read it's normally for the following month, not more than a month. No I hadn't requested it to be expedited. It was a bit of a sramble to get the medical booked and flights to London for that but they had plenty availablity and I'm booked in for friday.
