hello I have questions on the k1 visa

1) how long does the fiance have after the interview to come into the states?

(reason I am asking is because my fiance's brother has his graduation in August so we are trying to plan accordingly)

2) Does the embassy pick the interview date for us? or do we get to pick the date?

Thanks

1) It is generally six months from the date of the medical.

2) Entirely consulate-dependent. For Auckland, you are assigned a time and date.   Maybe @Wuozopo or another member who is familiar with London will know.

LONDON

1. Your visa will be issued to expire 6 months from the medical date. It is not based on the interview date.

2. K1s pick their own interview date. It's done online. They typically only show openings available for the next two months. If you were wanting to plan something further out, you would have to wait until closer to that date to book.

thank you for the confirmation

We did not submit the visa yet, but will plan accordingly. I thought it was 3 months from the medical date. but 6 months is plenty. Thank you once again.

Is the medical hard to schedule? meaning is it booked busy?

Usually you can get a medical appointment for the next week when you call. The hardest part is getting them to answer the phone.

You can submit your petition now so you know it's going to be approved and sent to NVC and then London in time. You never know how long that's going to take because it could all change. Once it gets to London, you control the timeline. Just delay making the medical and visa appointment until you are ready. It can sit there a year if needed.

I thought you had six months to enter the USA from the date of the K1 stamp after the interview? not from the date of the physical?

You don't get a K1 "stamp". You get a paper visa glued in your passport that covers a whole page. The information printed on it will include an expiration date. That date will be six months from the medical date, not from the interview date.  The medical clearance is valid for 6 months so you will not be authorized for visa travel beyond your medical validity.
