Will the Montreal Consulate let me in without an appointment to fix the mistake on my K1 visa?

Hi everyone,

I posted a few days ago about receiving my K1 visa with a date of birth error. I already emailed the Immigrant Unit at the Montreal consulate asking how to get this rectified. However, they still haven't gotten back to me. I am nervous about how long it will take to get fixed considering in the automatic reply email I receive it says their mail review process takes several weeks, so I'm guessing it would be quite some time before they even get to my passport to reprint the visa.

My question is, if I were to fly to Montreal and show up at the consulate, would they allow me in? From my research on the topic of visa mistakes, it seems like embassies in other countries are quite accommodating to those who have errors on their visas and they accept walk ins and fix the visa right away. I'm wondering if Montreal would be the same?

Thanks so much for any help.

Montreal does not take phone calls you need to email them. Write in the subject line something like Error in K1 visa. It needs to be catchy so the person reading it spots it right away and sends it to the right person.

I've sent another email with that as the subject line. I'm hoping that it will catch someone's attention. Thank you!

Hi, did you get this fixed? How long did it take?

I got my K1 issued on Jan 17, got it yesterday but there's a typo on the petitioner's name. Sigh, similar issues.

I got it fixed in about two weeks, just in time for my wedding. The first person I had contacted via email was not helpful, so I emailed again and the lady who responded to me was incredibly helpful and sympathetic.

From the reading I did though, my understanding is that if your info is okay, that is all that matters, and that the petitioner info isn't as important.

I hope you can get it sorted out soon!

Sorry, could you please tell me what happened? I assume you emailed them, sent in passport, they fixed it, and sent it back? I can't find many posts with similar issues for Canada so I'm needy LOL

That's good to know it took 2 weeks. There was someone who waited for them to fix it for 5-6 weeks, though her case was more complicated.

I sent an email yesterday night... Would it be a bad idea to start a new email thread again today? With a more catchy title lol

I believe a typo on the petitioner's name is fine for POE but it would cause issues for AOS, so I want to fix it before I cross over.

I emailed them, and they told me to send back my passport and documents to them and they would track the package's location carefully so that they could start working on it as soon as it was received (on a side note, Fedex LOST TRACK of this package for a few day - I was freaking out). Once the package was received by them I noticed when I checked the status online it went from "ISSUED" back to "RECEIVED" I think it was. After two or three days it went back to "ISSUED" and they sent it back out to me.

I think it definitely is important to send an email with a catchy title so that someone notices and hopefully will understand the urgency.

Thank you. I hope mine goes as quickly as 2-3 days of it being there before they send it back. Someone (who had a more complicated case though) said they were told the documents sit for 10 business days before being reviewed.

I got a reply today (after 2.5 days) saying they are reviewing my request and will get back to me with instructions. Did you get an email like that? How long before they gave you instructions?

Ugh sorry for all the questions. Just frustrated.

I did receive an email like that. That was the reply to the first email I sent. They said "send back your passport and we'll get back to you with instructions."  They neglected to answer all of the questions that I had asked. So I emailed again, explaining more of the details of my situation and how the error was impacting me, and I was very lucky to get a reply from the very nice lady who helped me out following that.

Do you recommend that I send another email, a new one this time? Or just wait.

My email didn't instruct me to send anything back, just wait for instructions :/ sigh

That's hard to say, I'm really no expert but if it were me I might just wait to see what they say when they get back to you with the instructions. Hopefully they will tell you to send it back and that they will get working on it right away

How many days did it take from your initial email to them to them giving you the instructions?

And do you remember if the CEAC status changed while they were reviewing your case before you sent your passport back to them?

I'm sorry for all the questions... any approximations would help, thank you
