You put it in my head!!! Now I'm checking them out. Is the difference between the Outback and the Forester just in size? The Ascent looks too big. I hate driving in LA with a humungous vehicle.

My Subaru buddy said the outback is bigger. Thats about it. You can get a v6 in an outback

I guess maybe something like an Outback? I don't know, I'm kind of a total noob in this regard in choosing my own. The Mercedeses were all SUV-style, and that's fine, but I'm open to other styles. Not crazy about a sedan though.

My wife likes her Cadillac XT4, not too big, good in the snow with AWD, peppy, and she absolutely loves the massaging seats.

Ooooooh, I'd never thought of a Cadillac. Hm. And massaging seats is definitely something I would enjoy, too.

Doesn't matter what state it is purchased in.  Just gotta register it in the state in which ye reside.

And that is what i meant to say . I used the term home of record intead of residency

Registering a vehicle in a state you dont live in to aviod taxes is fraud

I've been reading about whether 6'2" guys feel comfortable in a Boxster (surprisingly there are a lot of forum posts out there about this specific height with a Boxster), and it looks like consensus is generally yes. However I raised the possibility this morning and he said he was concerned about being able to fit things like grocery shopping in there. I pointed out that (1) there are only 2 of us so how much shopping could I possibly need to do and (2) Whole Foods delivers so...? I don't think he sounded crazy about the idea, though he did say that if I wanted to get him a manual one of his own, on top of a sensible car for myself, he could be persuaded. 🤷‍♀️

Do I understand correctly that you are using your ex's money to buy your fiance an automobile? Does he know? Quite frankly, I would be livid with my woman purchasing a vehicle with money from her ex-husband. If he has an ounce of dignity, he will refuse.

I never said I was buying him a car. I said I was buying us a car. He mentioned that he wouldn't turn down a car if I happened to buy him one. And in any event, I think I'm most likely to buy something far more practical than a car that I can't drive anyway. Are you really saying that if I bought him something I thought he would like, he should turn it down out of some sense of male pride???

Given his history with your ex, it only seems right.

Well, I think it was a joke anyway. I asked him if he would accept a car I bought for him if he knew it was paid for with money that had come from Voldemort (I think I am going to use this name going forward for him). He said he wouldn't touch anything that [expletive deleted] had paid for. I pointed out that any rent I paid on the new place would be coming from Voldemort too, but he said that was different -- housing is a need, while a car is a luxury. I am not so sure about this reasoning but I'll take it.

The new guy will forever be playing in the sandbox that was previously owned by Voldemort.  Why not the vehicle bought by Him, as well?
