You liked the Boxter, there are just 2 of you, why not go for something similar?

How come you never learned to drive properly? You spent a long time in the UK.

No, not a long time in the UK. I spent a year abroad there, and then six months over a decade ago. I never really had much use for a car back then, okay, maybe it would have been nice in the country, but it seemed like a liability when I was living in cities. Then it was just holidays and stuff. LOL at "drive properly" -- I have heard that SO many times from British people. I tried to learn how to drive manual/stick/whatever on he-who-must-not-be-named's car, but after several VERY painful attempts to do so in a Best Buy parking lot I was told I couldn't be trusted not to destroy the vehicle. So I stuck with automatics.

I guess I am trying to be practical when it comes to a car. I mean, I can afford something nice, I know that. And maybe a little sportscar would be nice. But I also want to be able to fit the occasional third or fourth person in the car, I think.

Well not sure if Best Buy would have some responsibility for this but pretty sure they would have no legal obligations.

I did not even know until today that a Boxter came auto, perhaps California specific? Reminds me of the first time I drove a manual here and I had to depress the clutch to get er going, #######.

Well if you regularly take more then of course that may be a need to upsize, really depends how often.

It's a "Tiptronic" transmission -- I just looked up what the technical term for it and I think it's "manumatic." I never used the option to shift.

I don't take people regularly, I'm just thinking about a bunch of what ifs.

The Best Buy experience was allllllllll me. :D It was a Lotus and it was his "fun" car. It was not very fun for me. I hated the thing -- I'd tell you what kind it was but I can't really remember, having blanked out the trauma. Maybe an Elise? I want to say Elise. This was back in 2011.

You have to register your car to your home of record. federal law. If you flew here and lived in Texas that is where you would pay taxes. Unless you are military

You must not have understood. Yes he saved the price of registration on the actual purchase price.

I have seen Elise over here a friend had a 7 which I can not imagine would have made it.

I do recollect now, I think the early ones did not. But I could be really wrong.

I've been reading about whether 6'2" guys feel comfortable in a Boxster (surprisingly there are a lot of forum posts out there about this specific height with a Boxster), and it looks like consensus is generally yes. However I raised the possibility this morning and he said he was concerned about being able to fit things like grocery shopping in there. I pointed out that (1) there are only 2 of us so how much shopping could I possibly need to do and (2) Whole Foods delivers so...? I don't think he sounded crazy about the idea, though he did say that if I wanted to get him a manual one of his own, on top of a sensible car for myself, he could be persuaded. 🤷‍♀️

Well this is the first height/Boxter post on VJ that I know of, I would have been very surprised if that was an issue.

I think you are renting, how many car parking spaces do you get?

No, on Porsche forums, not here.

We're renting a two bed and it comes with two spaces. I just don't see the need to have two cars if one of us is walking to work. It seems excessive.

I guess maybe something like an Outback? I don't know, I'm kind of a total noob in this regard in choosing my own. The Mercedeses were all SUV-style, and that's fine, but I'm open to other styles. Not crazy about a sedan though.

You put it in my head!!! Now I'm checking them out. Is the difference between the Outback and the Forester just in size? The Ascent looks too big. I hate driving in LA with a humungous vehicle.
