My car is a 2018 and didn't have those features.

Hubs has a radar detector that goes bananas every car he passes due to the damn side mirror alerting.  I find it annoying to drive with him!

Might need some adjusting of the detector, perhaps?  Mine flashes an unobtrusive light located below my side view mirrors when someone is in my blind spot, but only makes a noise if I have my turn signal on to slide over, or if I get right on the line, and am in danger of superimposing my vehicle over theirs.

It's just sensitive on the hwy setting, which is where he has it 90% of the time.    More expensive detectors (like $1000+) can ignore those signals and his ignores it on command with a button push.  However the radar from the side detectors have multiple frequencies and you can only block one at a time.  No two cars seem to use the same frequency either.

Gotcha.   I like the way mine works... I can see the flash of a light out of the corner of my eye for the blind spot feature, but it only chirps at me if I am trying to do something dumb.   And now that I think about it, I don't think the side warming has any adjustment like the front one does.

Hopefully we are all safer thanks to these features.

Oh no I mean his radar detector... None of our cars have the blind spot detectors. Your blind spot feature is powered by radar, just like a police speed radar detector. and they make his radar detector chirp.  In Colorado, the state troopers tend to use Ka band and it has a particular chirp and tells you "Ka band."  Meanwhile we drive by someone with blind spot detectors and his radar says "k band" and has a different chirp.  The front detectors tend to have one frequency and the back another.  It's annoying to drive down the highway with the damn thing chirping away about everyone's blind spot and "car nearby" radars dinging off his detector.

Ahhh, now I am picking up what you are laying down, lol!!  I feel silly.  I haven’t used a radar detector in decades (mostly because I slowed my dumb butt down and just don’t need them anymore).

Hopefully your husband doesn’t mount the radar detector via a suction cup to the windshield...

He does, it's legal here to do so.

Ya know, this website you linked says it's illegal and I can't find an actual law that states that.

I found several links that say it's legal however, and some states like California it's actually legal but location matters.  So I don't think that website you linked is accurate and is probably just selling product as a scare tactic.

I also read through C.R.S. 42-4-201 and none of it says you can't place something on the windshield.   It goes really specifically into the amount of tint you can have and how low on a windshield you can tint.  It does go into detail into that the passenger cannot obstruct the view of the driver, but nothing about you can't attach things provided you have a normal unobstructed view. If they decided to fine you for it's a class B traffic infraction (so they can't pull you over for it initially) and the fine is $15-$100.   In his car, the radar detector doesn't block his view because there is a black piece from the mirror and the detector sits right behind that. It's about an inch tall.

Neither of us like things on our windshields.  My phone sits in the center console after I plug it into the car so I can GPS (my car did not come with Nav).  Really the only device that sits out is my tuner and it's not on my windshield since I don't need to look at it.

I'll be honest, I drive my car for fun factor.  It makes me smile most times I get into it.  It's outside traffic that makes me not have fun.  I cannot wait to mod it too. Next year I have plans for the little beasty.

Yeah, laws seem hard to nail down, outside VA, DC, and military bases (all illegal).

What "fun factor" vehicle do you drive?

ETA:  I once got stopped by the PoPo in Alaska because I had a steering knob on my wheel.  He said it was illegal.  I asked him what statue he was quoting?  As he went back to his car, I googled it.  The AK troopers site said it was legal.  I showed him when he returned, and he sent me on my way.  Blesa the interwebz!!

2018 Fiesta ST.   Really the only thing I wish I'd done was get the recaro seats but the deal on this car was too good to pass up.

Yeah, as I said in OP... fugly.  And sad the way Musk tries to raise money ahead of time via his cult following prior to building it.  So many people are going to get screwed, methinks.

This seems as good a place as any to post this. We are going to be in the market for a new car next year -- I haven't had one since I moved to the Bay Area last year. But even though his commute will be walkable/bikeable, I know that a move to the LA area means we need to bite the bullet and get a car. The building we're moving to has charging bays for electric/hybrid vehicles, so I'm thinking that I could consider something outside of a gas-powered car. The last time I got to choose my own vehicle was back in 2010, when I took the money my then-fiance had wired me for a sensible SUV and spent it on a used Porsche instead (it truly was an amazing deal but yeah, even I realize how dumb this was -- in my defense I was only 24 and the dealer saw an easy mark in me...). After that, nope, never got to choose my own car.

So, what works for someone who is 1) open to hybrid/electric, 2) unlikely to have to drive long distances but enjoys weekend drives along the coast, 3) can only drive automatic and 4) will be using it for mostly city driving? Alex will be driving it too, and he would prefer something a little sporty, but nothing that he wouldn't feel safe about me driving. (I have never had a speeding ticket or any other moving violation, but he's just worried.) Also, while I'm on the shorter end of the height spectrum, he is 6'2", which is a height where things (according to him) start to get a little problematic in some vehicles in terms of headroom. Up until recently, I only had a series of Mercedes (my car up until the Porsche was a mid-90s Sentra, so please don't think that I'm snooty about cars). I am really open to hearing ideas if anyone wants to share.
