LOL Are you a non-smoker, too?

I live on a farm, dear. I need something that is also going to carry 10 - 15 bags of 50 lb. feed, a salt block or two and a 250 lb. bucket of molasses every week in the fall/winter. Don't bother mentioning a pick-up cuz I don't like them.

I need something that is going to both make me happy and be functional on the farm.

I also need something that's within my budget, so a hybrid is out at this time.

To be honest, my Ford Aerostar I've been driving for the past 2 years is even higher up than the Jeep I test-drove, and I've never had a problem. If you drive at excessive speeds, the risk of roll-over is higher but I don't speed. Ever. I'm too chicken-sh!t.

Cool your ram-jets....lol...I've said we decided to wait a bit longer and look around some more anyway.

what's the price range?

I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and I LOVE it.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

A pickup truck would be much more suitable for your needs, though farmers in the UK haul more than that without an SUV. My husband's grandparents lived on a farm and did not have a pickup or an SUV. They had a trailer that attached to the rear of any car with towing capabilities. You don't even need that much torque to haul what you want to haul.

In the end you'll buy what you want, but do keep in mind that we all share this planet.

My mother just got a Honda Crv, we drove it to Tn over the weekend and it was averaging 26-28 mpg. Nice lil SUV, rode and drives very well.

I second that! We have one of them and love it! (It's for sale now, by the way, anyone interested? )

My husband just bought a new one, I can really recommend the CRV. Very reliable, get's great milage and holds the value really good. It's a 4-wheel drive too and did great in the Minnesota winter.

Iwould take a honda CRV over a jeep product anyday! A friend has the honda pilot, and what a nice vehicle!! Any Honda/Toyota will hold their value better than most Fords, GM's and Jeeps!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

 My stepfather a very reliable mechanic of 30+ years (who has always been employed by a gm dealer) chose the CRV......if that doesn't speak highly of the vehicle I don't know what else would. His comment, you never see a Honda for much more than an oil change.

Unless my husband's driving it, crashing it into bollards and other cars.

I had a CrV for 4 years and loved it. Great handeling, gas milage and did really well in Toronto winters. Bought the New Rav4... has a lot more power than the CRV but still drives very nicely.

Id recomend both of them.

I did take a Jeep Liberty rental and drove from Toronto to Windsor/Detroit border.... horrible gas milage and the ride is so choppy (roads were perfectly fine) I felt sick the whole night after I got home.

My family has had a Jeep Liberty for about four years now and I wish we'd gotten a different car. *sigh*

So far, our dealer has had to recall it for various repairs and glitches four times. We have to fill up every week for gas - the thing is seriously a guzzler. There's issues with the windows and CD system, which mysteriously disappear when we take it to the shop (of course they would!). It's a bit of a shaky ride in the back, to boot.

All in all, it's a reasonably decent drive and I love being as high up as I am (I'm barely five feet), but I would've gone for something completely different if it had been my choice.

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Getting our sanity tested by bureaucracy since 2007.

Here we go again...

No help from me here. I don't like the high-up perspective of most minivans and SUVs; can't tell where the heck the front of the car is, and I don't like the wind profile. We have a Chevy Venture at the moment and I really can't wait to get rid of the thing. Guess it's cause I grew up driving beat-up station wagons and sedans.

Depending on how much actual hauling you do, you might be able to get away with a smaller, more fuel efficient car. A truck really sounds ideal for you, but I can see not liking them. C.'s family's mostly farmers, and I have never seen so many trucks in one place.

Buy a Hummer!!!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
