Low-grade, paranoid passport questions

The former Mr Maven has been a citizen for 18 months now and is finally applying for his first US passport. I helped him prepare the application using the online PDF form filler, and we had two questions:

(1)  On the online form filler, the provision of a telephone number for the applicant is not a starred item, which we read to mean that it was optional. He would prefer not to provide his phone number to the government, so we left it off. Is this reading correct?

(2)  I am down as his emergency contact; my relationship is described as "friend." However, my biographical information is also on the application as I am his ex-wife, and the date of divorce is clearly there. I don't see that there's any problem in classifying me as a "friend," since that is the nature of our relationship now. However, I do wonder if someone reviewing this might take this as being odd (well, it is odd, I admit) and it somehow affects the processing. Please let me know that this is just low-grade paranoia unfounded in any reality.

This is my VERY last thing ever having to do with immigration and naturalization because my almost-fiance is American, and everything going forward is strictly domestic. I just want it to be over -- either he gets this passport without a hitch, or I should be taken out into the woods and shot for my continued, inexplicable masochism for continuing to assist a man I've been divorced from for almost 6 years. 🙄

1. Yes. A phone number is not required to have a passport.

2. Nobody cares about that. The emergency contact is there so they can call in case something happens to the passport holder while overseas and they need to inform someone.

Yes

Passports have nothing to do with immigration at this point. When they handed him the naturalization certificate, that’s the last piece of immigration

Thank yous and useless comments above in red.

I just applied for my passport, but I got no receipt, nothing. Do I need to go back and ask for a receipt/acknowledgement? I have photocopied my passport application form to track the number. Is that enough? I paid the fee using a personal check.

Thanks much

When you go to check your passport application status you only need Last Name, Date Of Birth & last 4 digits of Social Security.

No application number needed.
