I did get a visit from social services once because my daughter had told her school counselor that I had spanked her with a belt.  A lady showed up at my house and asked to speak to my wife and I alone.  Asked if I had spanked my daughter with a belt.  I said yes.  When she asked why, I told her my daughter had shoplifted (with an older, troubled teen who was trying to date my son at the time).  She tried to tell me it was inappropriate to spank a child, especially a teen girl.

 

She then asked to talk to my daughter,  which we did together.  Other than encourage her to answer the lady's questions (she is kinda shy), I kept my mouth shut.  Then she asked to inspect my daughter's bare bottom.  I told her it was up to daughter and my wife (step mom).

 

Thankfully, any bruising that may have been was gone, and all was well.  At the end, the worker asked if I planned to spank my daughter in the future.  I said I hoped not, that I think my daughter had learned her lesson the first time,  which was the very purpose of such punishment.   She also tried to badger my spouse into admitting that she had "allowed the abuse".  LOL, noce try.  My wife said that she thought the punishment fit the crime, and that had she done such as a kid, that her dad would have done the same thing to her, except he would have used the buckle end of the belt.

 

After she said she was gonna file her report, but that no abuse was noted, I asked her if she had kids.  She said no, but she had a masters in... something about kids.  I told her that perhaps she should consider obtaining some actual experience in raising her own kids before she tried to tell actual parents how to raise theirs.  She was nice enough, but... naive.

I would say she is gifted with a sense of self-importance.  Yep, no discipline at all, let them run wild.  What a joke.

I don't worry too much about opinions of other people. 

 

I always found it funny how often my wife would be changing one of our babies in a public restroom change pad, the ones that are conveniently by the exit side of the bathrooms. I'd stand outside there, hearing my kid screaming, and I'd always hear people (overwhelmingly white women who had no kid with them) walking by into the store and to the exit, hearing my child, talking aloud about how a screaming baby = abusive parents. "God I wonder what those people are doing to that baby".. can only laugh. There are many people not fit to be parents. In some ways with these western white women threatening not to have kids, I fail to see how its an actual threat. I'm totally on their side on this. If they're this irrational, don't have them.
