The U.S. Consulate General in Montreal will be experiencing an extended staff shortage this summer and fall. Therefore, as of July 9, 2007, we will not be accepting visa applications from persons residing in the U.S. This includes persons wishing to obtain or renew their work visas (H and L visas), student visas (F and M visas) or exchange visitor visas (J visas). As of July 9, 2007, the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal will only accept visa applications from people residing in Canada. This moratorium will continue for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your understanding

This does not affect K1/K3 applicants. I called MTL to confirm. Also they do send out Packet3 pretty fast. I got mine a week after it got sent from NVC. However the interview date is running about 5-6 months after you send back the checklist to Montreal.

 Some were actually excited thinking this might be good knews for K applicants! I'm hoping they're right :) although the staff shortage makes me wonder if it will still be the same waiting time as it is now (4-7 months I believe.)
