Health insurance for my wife

Not sure if this is helpful. My husband added me to his insurance (through employer) for $86/weekly. Includes vision and dental.

To be honest, after 7 months in the US I still can’t understand perfectly how healthcare works lol. The  total for me and my husband is less than $200/weekly and the average deductible is $15. But that’s all I know 🤷🏻‍♀️ .

Your copay is probably $15 if your deductible was only $15, well, sign me up! I work in insurance and I don’t understand it either so don’t feel bad there lol

I think the hardest part about getting added to your spouse insurance is having to do it within 3 months of getting married... if you don’t then have to wait for open enrolment in most cases I’ve seen (including mine) 

 

which by by the way it sucks because your either getting covered for care you don’t need because reside overseas, or open enrolment doesn’t align with issuance of Visa and the 30 day rule that might be getting implemented...

 

any news on the proclamation go ahead  yet?

According to healthcare.gov "Moving to the U.S. from a foreign country or United States Territory" counts as a qualifying life event for an enrollment period.    So you could wait until your spouse receives their visa and use the change in residence to add them to/ get insurance.

$200/weekly is expensive...well, i guess it is better than nothing, right? 😊

I also beneficiary for my husband (also our daughter). We only pay $208/month; tricare is our insurance. I was complaining the other day why it is so expensive but I guess there are a lot of people out there with way more expensive health insurance 😥

It isn't hard to add a spouse within three months of marriage. Those who have spouses abroad have in many cases added their spouse to their policies already. For those that haven't been able to, the spouse will still fall under a SQLE upon their arrival to the US, thereby not needing to wait for open enrollment.

$208/month is less than half of my premium (for just myself). With my employer's contribution, it's over $1000/month they are receiving.
