08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The natural downward "progression" as Californians flood the state.

Apparently, Californians are not big on learning from their mistakes.

Despite Californians using this stereotype to bash Americans, it's them that embody the stereotype of the bumbling American who loudly and rudely encroaches on others when going to their sovereign land. I was rather naive and learned the hard way about telling people where I'm from. Thankfully their defensive wall can be brought down by explaining that you're not a culture-ruining culture-doormat like the others from your state.

Some of us like it here. Some don't. That's okay! Pretty cool that we have a country diverse enough to have both a Texas and a California. :star: I've never had anyone look down on me for being Californian. Being American, however... 🙄 It says more about the people who look down on you about where you're from than where you come from.  Such people are snobs and are best dismissed.

Ever since I went to Canada about a decade ago, we visit the US at least a few times a year. I've actually visited many states for the first time that I never visited when living in CA. We've visited about 25 states since, most frequently we spend time in the states near the Canadian border. Not only do I frequently encounter Californians who look down their noses at the people where they live, especially if its in a "backwards red state", but even more, I encounter contempt people locally have for these types of Californians. I was advised in multiple states.. Washington (out east), Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota, and so on, not to mention where I'm from, there are some who are actually hostile to others because of what people from my state have done, from destroying their livelihood, to ruining their hunting and fishing lands, many reasons that a logical person can empathize with, and probably should if they have an ounce of self-awareness and care for their own safety.

You're not wrong. I'm in California only because of work. Not only do these people look down on every other state in front of your face, they do it behind your backs as well. Hence the term "flyover state" for example. Largest homeless problem in the nation, but they look down on good hardworking people from states they consider beneath them.

Still doesn't change what I think: that it says more about others than it does about you. I'd rather people judge me on my character than the fact I was born in Los Angeles.

As someone who also tends to overwrite, just a suggestion which truly is meant in a friendly way: more paragraphs help with readability on a page. I can see you have a lot to say, and that's cool, but it makes it easier to parse if broken up a little more. Please take this in the good spirit it's sent in!

Then why are we seeing so much political push from CA toward the regressive Left?  The regulation from CA that is different and supposedly "better" than the rest of the country?  You may not be that type, but you have admitted to being a Leftist which appears to be the root of most of our political issues.  CA is in fact a beautiful state, particularly the South Eastern portions, but I for one would never take a job that would force me to live there since I enjoy freedom.  Btw, this is all my opinion, and perception which is my own.

Indeed. And for the sake of debate, these people aren't judging based on geography alone, like the above post is saying. What they have is a natural social bias that's easily explained psychologically by the most basic understanding of classical conditioning. You're combining people from a location coming to where they live (neutral stimulus) with a negative stimulus (losing hunting lands, losing fishing lands, spiking housing prices, serious negative changes to their way of life) which is a natural response to a perceived threat.

I spent most of my life in a state where they taught us about how to see the way our actions affect other people, yet nowadays I mostly encounter people from my state doing everything they can to be as self-unaware, rather, self-entitled, as possible, and their entire arguments clearly center around those means.

It's so disappointing what they're turned that state into. Such a beautiful state, especially San Francisco, where I'm from, and what really sucks is when you spend most of your life spoiled in California climate (particularly as someone affected by seasonal allergies, humidity, or seasonal changes in general), it's REALLY hard to move elsewhere. But even the amazing geodiversity and climate wind up being irrelevant when the people suck and has too much of a profound impact on your every day life, particularly if you're the extraverted type like I am.

It's your opinion,  but it's not your own.  Many, many, many others share it.  A couple of years back, I ran into a couple in podunk Alabama with CA plates on their truck.  Talked to them for awhile.  They were escaping the miserable existence they had in Commiefornia, and were thrilled at how far their money was taking them, the friendly folks in the area, and the laid back pace.

Just like everyone else who made the move, once they got out of prison they absolutely LOVED their lives.  I know I'll never go back, except for a very short visit.  Life is just too good out here in the real world!
