We have a k1 interview coming up, and I am looking for someone to be a co-sponsor. I've read on this forum that it is better if the co-sponsor is a close relative of the petitioner, rather than a friend or a distant relative. In-laws are apparently the worst. I've also read that if the sponsor is in a different state than the petitioner, it looks bad.

Knowing these things .. just curious if anyone has had an actual experience with a "sub-optimal" co-sponsor, eg, one in a different state, a distant relative, or even a total stranger. Interested in hearing about both approval and denials under these circumstances.

I really don't think that you will have problems if the co sponsor is in a different state or not. As long as they meet the requirements money wise alone with being a US citizen (if I remember correctly) then you'll be ok.

That's interesting that you brought this up because I never heard of anyone having problems with an out of state co sponsor.

Good luck!

I will be using a co-sponsor, whom is my step father and he is also out of state. I have not heard it is a problem, also I could not see why it would be. I'm interested to see if anyone replys to this saying they had a problem with it. But I soon will see as my fiance has his interview next month.
