I am preparing to send in our I864. My tax return for last year was not as much as my previous ones because we lived with my husband in Morocco for 4 months of last year. Should I include a brief letter explaining this?

Not enough information. Did you earn enough last year to qualify as the sponsor? Do you now?

Sorry! Last year with my leave of absence put me under the guidelines. I do exceed the guidelines this year however. I read more in detail last night and it looks like I will have to have a cosponsor after all.
