Don't worry about the Venezuelan embassy being closed, you can apply in any embassy around the world, but most commonly Venezuelan cases are taking place in Bogota, Colombia (where me and my fiancee are applying). Good luck! You both can do it! Start as soon as possible to be with your fiancee as soon as possible. ❤

You cannot interview for a K1 at any embassy. You can do it for other types of non immigrant visas though.
the reason is because you have to provide either citizenship or legal residency in the third country.  I’m telling you this because I was part of the first group of people who  were interviewed in Bogotá this year. My appointment was cancelled in Caracas and the instructions were clear. All cases will be transferred to Bogotá  with the exception of Venezuelans living abroad and who could prove legal residency in the other country.

Hopefully the airlines are paying for those trips because if they boarded somebody with invalid travel documents, it falls on them for return flight expenses.

I think is important to explain why those extensions including the one given by the Venezuelan government (2 year extension) sometimes might not work for travelers. The one given by the Venezuelan government is literally a sticker that is attached to the old expired passport.

The sticker is so crappy that you can get it shipped to any country and attach it yourself.(it sounds awful, but that’s how many things are done in Venezuela currently)

Therefore, some countries are on the fence about recognizing such “extension “  and allowing you entrance to their territory.

Some countries don’t even know of the existence of such thing.Last year I was traveling and I saw a man being detained by immigration authorities because they thought he was using a fake passport, he was using the 2 year extension.

I also have an acquaintance who’s an LPR and tried to travel outside the US with said extension and just 10 minutes before take off he was asked to leave the plane. This was 2 weeks ago.

She can get an extension called 'prorroga' is easier to get than the normal passport it will extend the validity for 2 more years. And you can usually get it in a couple of months. Also, is the cheaper option.  The extension of Venezuelan passports by the US government  ONLY work for entry to the US and consular processes, she can't use that to travel to a different country.

This is exactly what i was asking about !!!   Thank you so much for response.

As i suspected, just because US says they grant extension doesnt mean every country in the world will accept it.

Don't trust this! I'm venezuelan and have a friend who wasn't allowed into the country (US) because the passport was "expired".  The CBP is not fully informed about this.

While Susie or others here may not believe you i do !!  I have been there and seen CBP officers lie and treat non USC like (removed). They (some) think they are gods and do not always follow what the law says.

FYI Susie (and I’m sure many others here) have spent most of their lives being non USCs from third world countries who have encountered CBP officers many times in that context. I’ve been treated far worse by immigration officers from other countries, and actually other developing countries have been way worse power trip wise than almost any CBP Officer I encountered. FYI.

Take a printout of the DOS page if you think CBP are uninformed.

I don’t recall anyone asking about “every country in the world”, wasn’t the question about the US?

Gee, well accept my apologies, I thought I was answering in response to the post about getting a K1 visa. I’ll leave you to the expertise of others.

NO worries, my question was about the situation in general and the problems associated with getting a K1 should i file. the info you gave about the extension by the US was helpful. Thank you.

Any info in regards to the process is helpful.

Hello, hope i am clear with my question.

I am in a relationship with a venezuelan woman. I am wondering about the possibilites of a k1 visa for her, or even how to hope for one since we no longer have people in the embassy there? In addition, because travel from US to there is banned I cant go there to see her now. Worse, her passport is about to expire (04/20) so she cant travel to another country for a meeting. The delay for her to get another is over a year, IF THEY WOULD EVEN GIVE HER ONE. (she said the goverment is not wanting to give them out because too many people are leaving the country.)  Anyone here have any recent experience or direct knowledge of this situation and advice?

Keep in mind that even with those hurdles, the two year meeting requirement for the K-1 visa still stands.

Your best bet is to get an extension (prórroga), because unfortunately the government makes it really hard to get your hands on a new passport. The whole process is tedious and corrupt. Do it soon, she can request it now because she is under the 6 months prior to the expiry date requirement that SAIME asks. They just adjusted the prices so the quicker the better, people will freak out and the system will be backlogged.  https://www.elnacional.com/economia/estas-son-las-nuevas-tarifas-de-emision-de-pasaportes-y-prorrogas/

If you have to meet in person (which is a requirement for k1), meet in nearby countries, Curacao, Aruba, Dominican Republic, Colombia. Some of them have specific regulations for Venezuelans as well, but they are easier to solve than you going to her (which is dangerous) or her coming to you (which is unlikely).

As a Venezuelan holding my country's passport, I can assure you that is NEVER easy for us to go through immigration. But the hardest for me has always been other Latin American  countries. Be prepared for it, she should carry enough dollars in cash, have printed out hotel/airbnb accommodations  and be honest to the immigration officer.

Good luck!

Then you can't file the k1 until you two meet, ask her to get the extension and if she gets it, then you can plan on meeting and then file. There's no other way around it.

Actually, before everyone jumps on it....... we have met. but i read the requirements wrong. I thought it said we had to meet twice.

But still we are wanting to see each other again. she didnt talk to me about these issues before because she had lots of time left on her passport extension.
