Hi all,

Few days ago, a friend entered the US and on entry provided the immigration officer a paper with the mailing address for their green card. It turns out that the officer entered a wrong address that doesn't even exist. We found out about this when we logged into the USCIS account.

Currently, the status shows up as :

In Process

USCIS has accepted your application, petition, or request for processing.

We have submitted an online change of address request but we got an email saying we should expect a reply by November 29th, which is still many days away. I am afraid by that time, the green card will be mailed to the wrong address on file which doesn't exist. What will happen in this case ? We do not want to pay extra money to get a replacement card.

Can a live agent resolve this issue for us ? What are our options ?

Does anyone have any advice ? Thanks in advance.

If after 120 days it doesn't arrive at the correct address contact USCIS: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/expect-green-card IF they tell you to file Form I-90, then there shouldn't be a fee: "My previous card was issued but never received." https://www.uscis.gov/i-90

Thanks ! Should we still contact the customer center and see if they can update the address right away ?

How did they mess up the address exactly? If it was suppose to go to 123 Main and it was entered as 321 Main same town theres a chance you can speak to the Postmaster at your local post office about it. In addition to the postmaster you can speak to your local mailman but start with the Postmaster. Explain what happened and see if they can help you. I know Ive gotten lots of mail with my address completely butchered on it but the local post office uses common sense and gets it delivered to us. So if the letter makes its way to your local post office theres a good chance if you give them a heads up they will get it delivered to you. If it gets stopped at one of the sorting stations along the way to your local post office youre probably out of luck.

Sorry I had been away for a while. Called USCIS and they said they couldn't fix it since we already put a request for COA. However, a few days later, we got an email saying they fixed the address based on our last call. Weird but we have the correct address on file now.
