The internet had opened up international dating and shopping for a spouse,  no doubt.  But the MAJORITY of people here on VJ come here for that; quite the opposite.  Not even all come here for a spouse, though I'd guess that is the #1 reason, marriage visas.  And in all the years I have been on here, I have seen the mods shut down ANY kind of questions or promotion of any illegal immigration or attempts to circumvent the law in regards to such.

The only person i have met on this site and been in a long term relationship is the above poster. Both of us slready were in relationships when we came here for visa advice.

As for men meeting women here, i know of only one such woke couple

There is no "dirty little secret" as you are alluding to.  There are sites that do exactly what you are talking about.   Hell, there are members here who RUN sites like that!  But I don't believe that subset, as you refer to them, are anywhere near a majority here.  The ones I have personally seen (years ago when I wasn't a CEHST regular, but using the site for its intended purpose, visa advice), didn't last long, being shunned by the legit users.

 

And no, there's nothing wrong with people finding mates using the internet, as long as both partners are of legal consenting ages.  

I never said anything about anything illegal.

 

What I said was that people--and you are doing it right now by insisting that it's only a small majority, as if a large majority would somehow be unseemly--made it seem as if anyone who paid money for a bride were somehow tarnishing VJ. Look around, everyone seems to have met their spouses on fiancees on holiday or business abroad, because woe be to the man who admits paying his way to a bride, they will be shunned and denigrated.

 

The "dirty secret" is that VJers look down their noses at these men, as if their money were not their own to spend how they see fit.

the term "mail order bride" has negative connotations.  if a member says they have a mail order bride (or groom), that's their prerogative.  however, when another member uses that term towards another member's significant other it is often meant to denigrate - and will result in very unwanted moderation attention.

I wasn't offended, because your words have zero impact in my life.  But there are some here who may well have been offended.  You HAVE changed your tune since the original remark so as to defray the consequences (which won't happen now, it's in the past, so relax).  But your words DO have meaning, even if you try to walk them back now.

 

Also, I could be wrong, but I doubt anyone reported you when you said it as you alluded to.  The folks who used to report for silly stuff are pretty much all gone.  At least two mods are active here, and stay on top of the mistakes we make.
