PCC in Chennai

Hello,

I'd just like to share my experience getting a PCC at the regional passport office in Chennai. 

The whole process took around 3 and a half hours. Something that could be done in like 30 minutes.

I was made to run from pillar to post, cause apparently copies of my passport and the NOA2 weren't enough for the people checking the documents at the final counter. There was this middle aged lady who kept sending me to the passport office head's cabin cause she did not understand what the noa2 was inspite of me explaining to her.

I had to explain that I didnt have the visa in hand and I would get it only after the interview,  for which I would need the PCC, but they still didnt even know that the k1 visa was a thing. 

They asked for a letter from my fiance and a letter from me saying that we were engaged (I advise anyone who is trying to get a pcc for a k1 visa to take this in the future), which I had to go outside and ask my fiance to send me copies of and then take a print out of it.

They also asked me for engagement invitations  and I told them that we didnt even have a big engagement ceremony to have invitations for that. My name is uncommon in Chennai or India for that matter, cause I'm part British, they kept questioning me about that and why my surname was before my first name (they couldn't tell the difference) 

On the whole, the entire experience was rather stressfull and I really think that someone with a criminal history would probably have recieved it faster than I did. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I am glad the passport office is doing their job well!

 

It’s better to scrutinize a little than give the PCC easily.
