Original birth certificate? Plans to wed?

Hi,

K-1 visa interview coming up on Nov. 27th! I thought I saw at one point that the U.S. petitioner's original birth certificate and a photocopy are required at the visa interview, but this now seems inaccurate to me (and illogical). All that's required is proof of the petitioner's status in the U.S. (citizen) and of domicile, correct?

Other question: would the consular officer be happy to know my fiancée and I are planning a wedding in the U.S., or would this come off as presumptuous and work against us? We have done substantial amounts of planning, but we are waiting for the outcome of the interview to send out formal invitations.

Thank you so much, as always!

if you filed for a k1, the wedding would of course be in the US. You can provide copy of wedding arrangements/contracts as part of the proof of intent to marry. many, if not most K1 folks do not have a large wedding, they do a small civil ceremony to meet the criteria of marriage within 90 days and some do a larger wedding later (although we did not complete the k1 process, this is in fact what we did)

the petitioners original BC is not needed. the copy is fine. if they are going to the interview with you, I would have originals, but I dont see it as being necessary at all and do not believe it is required.

good luck with your interview!

1 - i saw that too somewhere so i asked my petitioner for her original BC. however, at the interview, it was not asked, not even a photocopy. not even listed in the laminated paper given for us to order the documents for their verification.

2 - the CO definitely asked if we have plans for the wedding. but never took any evidences of such. our intent to marry letter included proofs of our wedding plans but the CO only took the original letter of intent to marry and gave me back the evidences of our wedding plans.
