A small victory today regarding my application to adjust status

I went to the post office Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas to mail my (OK, my wife's)  I-485 AoS package.  The options were Priority Mail for about $7, which would take 2-3 days, or Priority Mail Express for $25.50, with a money back guarantee to arrive by noon the next day.

 

I figured I've spent so much already on this process that I might as well plunk down my credit card and pay $25.50 for the next day service.  But I wasn't happy about it.

 

Went online with the tracking number and set up email and text message notifications, because I'm neurotic.

 

I was alerted yesterday that the package arrived at the P.O. Box in Chicago at 12:39 p.m. local time.

 

Did I go back to the post office today to claim my $25.50 refund because the package didn't arrive by noon? I did. 

 

And she handed me back cash, which felt even sweeter.

I envy you that the $25.50 is what you worry about and what makes your day during the immigration process.

I remember paying for my aos shipping like $80-90 (?) It was through FedEx though. It definitely is a small victory if you only paid $25

I guess I've never understood paying for next-day shipping for forms that take months to process...

The less time they spend bouncing around in the back of a truck, the less chance they have to go missing. I think.

any little victory in this long process is great news

i am sure many of us will try claiming this kind of refund now when overnight delivery is held up for a snowstorm or other

Agree, we did priority, sent on friday at lockbox on following monday, felt like I paid express.

Whenever I have used USPS during our visa journey, I have always opted for return receipt requested. I just want to make sure it got to the Lockbox location, after that it is like just another brick in the wall for months.....months.....month....
