I didn't read the link, but a meeting at the Whitehouse was not the first concern, the "paused" money and Javelin missiles was.

You mean the military material the Ukraine received with no preconditions?  Maybe Trump should have sent them some blankets and MREs.

There is some truth there, mostly Obama had constraints

 

1. Yanukovych was a Kremlin proxy before he fled the country 2010-2014 no sense in handing him high tech missiles.The so called "hot mic" incident had nothing to do with the Ukrainians as at that time the govt was pro-russia. 

2. Poroshenko 2014 to Feb of this year was slowly get the country organized. Moving toward NATO and EU integration but beset by the inability to deal with the embedded corruption. Syria was an area Obama was trying to stay in cooperation with Russia. Obama's administration  provided 100 million and significant Military aid including Humvees, radar, medical equipment etc. McCain said it was not enough and that "blankets don't do well against Russian tanks" as a bit if hyperbole, but it was not literally.

 

But it is true that the lethal aid (specified by Congress) started with Trump, after a delay. Remember is was Paul Manafort who walked into the RNC and had Lethal assistance for the Ukraine  stricken from the platform in 2016  Oddly, it was the only item that Trump wanted revised. Oddly specific.

 

I am not agreeing with the lack of action by Obama, but it is apples and oranges to compare the scenarios.

 

The West, including Sweden has used Kiev as a thorn in the side of Moscow since ancient times.  Putin is going nuts over the thought of NATO and the EU on his door. We know why he is acting up, we just cannot give into it.

Not really apple and oranges, the US under Obama promised to come to the Ukraine’s defense if attacked.  Empty words I guess.  Under President Trump they did get their lethal aid with no preconditions and even when asked directly, President Trump said he did not want anything.  Now if some career diplomats thought otherwise, that is on them, but from what I read of their initial testimony behind closed doors, even Yovanovitch gave Trump credit for coming through with military aid.

Then why is Rudy mucking around in the Ukraine. Why did Trump undermine his ambassador on the perfect call?  Why, on the perfect call, did he say I need a favor "though" , why lockup the "perfect" transcript.( Which we cannot read)

As I stated before, the President, any President, has the power to conduct foreign policy as they see fit.  If they wanted to tap you to act as an emissary to a country apart from the establishment, that is their prerogative.  Additionally, I would imagine it is pretty routine for world leaders to discuss favors, etc. for various topics.  This whole thing smacks of Democrat butt hurt from the 2016 results mixed in with a whole lot of TDS from the establishment.  In general, I would not think a President would work around the established diplomat corps, but given the deep seated hatred of this President among the bureaucrats it may be the best course for Trump as he may not be able to trust those holding these positions.

I think this is more about enraging  a bunch of life long govt teat bureaucrats than anything else

Is asking a foreign government to investigate (and destroy) an American political opponent under threat of withholding congressional designated support  (that one needs to save their country while your countrymen are dying) the foreign policy of the United States of America?

The Democrats did not kick off the events?  I think you missed the part about the whistleblower having close ties to the Democrats including a current Dem candidate for President.  As to the aid, my understanding of the testimony of Sondland that when Trump was asked directly he said the Ukrainians did not have to do anything, the aid was sent prior to the due date Congress set, and all is good.  Now if any American was involved in nefarious, or corrupt practices abroad, they should be investigated and if warranted prosecuted regardless of their position.  As the Dems keep saying, no one is above the law, and that includes the former VP even if he is a current candidate.  Based on what has been uncovered, and the fact that career diplomats found the set up with the former VP and his family disturbing, maybe it should be looked at closely.  Kind of like the whole Russian collusion narrative that the Dems created out of nothing driving a huge investigation that found nothing.
