So Colombia Embassy wont extend my petition a month more because theres currently openings for interviews before my petitions expires. Has anyone had this problem before? I was trying save money by traveling in Jan instead of Dec. Our petition was approved Aug 14...which means it will expired Dec 14? Can I schedule the interview like 7 days after or will that be a problem? The Embassy was rude  about this.

There are so many people right now in these forums that would be envious to be in your shoes, they would likely take any open appointment that was made available to them. They have to hope and pray that they get their approved petition validity extended due to no available appointments, but you are balking at accepting an open appointment slot. The CO at the embassy is the one that has the authority to set the appointment or extend the validity. In essence, they are calling the shots. If you don't accept the open appointment, they don't have to do anything, and just let the petition expire and let you deal with the consequences. If they are offering you an open appointment before your petition expires, I would suggest that you take it.

If they aren't being cooperative with extending the validity, then best thing is to interview before it expires instead of hoping for a change of heart.

Interesting to know as my Fiancé will interview in Colombia as well and I plan to join him... Our petition expires on February 21st (approved Oct 22) and yes we want to interview January instead of December due to high cost of flights but we both did say that if December is the only availability that we would make it work despite the flights being expensive.

From what I can tell they only open dates 2 months in advance......I've been checking everyday.....as today almost everyday in Dec is available.  Jan is not open yet.

Thank you for the information. We plan to schedule ours in January in Bogota. I'll check the first few days of January to see if there are any openings. Good luck to you and your fiancé!

You have UP TO 6 months after visa issuance to enter the USA ... so there are ways to delay flying

When your visa is approved you will have 6 months to enter.

Getting a visa is not favors and i don't want to do it now because of XYZ.

Do your interview or let the petition expire and start over (new 129F) when it is convenient for you.

Yeah...after they approved the visa.....im referring to the petition....you have  4 months after they approved your petition....to schedule a date...unless theres no openings available they can extend it.

Sorry ...I wasnt clear......I plan to join my fiance for her interview. Our petition was approved Aug 14...then it was sent to NVC....then from there we never received confirmation...or any updates on what was going on. Everytime I checked the online site.....it wouldnt  pull up anything.....next thing I knew  it said "Ready" (which Someone here told me it meant the case was at the Embassy already). It took about 6 weeks after it changed to "Ready" to received the instructions Packet from the embassy. Actually it was awesome we received that email Oct 24 (her  birthday....best gift  ever!!!!). So I instantly created an account and paid the 265 (i had to pay 1st to see the open slots available). I knew  this was coming....I just wanted to save like 1200 ...so my tip  for anyone going thru Bogota.. 265 to  the Embassy.....medical exams are 300 pesos ($100)...blood work 300 pesos ($100) and if you need vaccines 265 pesos (which you can waive and get the shots in the USA...but I figured its cheaper there) .

Correct, I do understand what you were saying originally.  But you noted the embassy will not extend your petition .. so my suggestion was you could delaying traveling for a month or so to accomplish the same result.

I just read where you mentioned wanting to be there for the interview ... then my suggestion doesn't matter ...   never mind.  ;)
