Just wondering. I had a few problems when I first came to the US. I ended up with a pocket full of change as I would give notes, not being able to work out which coins to use for the correct amount. I kind of felt foolish asking my husband all the time at the check out what coins I should be handing over, so I just ended up giving notes. I have it all worked out now though. What about everyone else?

Canadian money is not all that different from US money... it is just worth a little less and Canadian bills come in different colours...

I didn't really have any problems... just had to get use to looking at the number on the bills rather then looking at the colours.... :P

 I was just looking up CAnadian money on Wiki and i just found out that Candian Tire money as its own Wiki Page...

It used to be that Re. 1 in India would buy comparably on necessities (automobiles not considered as one, so prices of these were way out of sync) as $1 in US (of course, this was in 1950's and 1960's--even up to 1970's--when $1 was less than Rs. 5. Nowadaze, the parity is like Rs. 10 to $1 (the exchange rate is around Rs. 45 to $1). Somewhat different, as notes in India vary in size and colour.

I'm also used anyway to handle Canuck bills (which vary in colour only, not size).

Although Canadian currency is much different than American, my husband didn't have a problem. He was familiar with our money before he moved here.

I think most Canadians do not have a hard time adjusting since we live so close along the border and people make such frequent trips for shopping and vacationing.

Also the denominations are pretty much the same with the exception of the Loonie and Toonie coins as opposed to the US$1 bill.

nessa hates american coins. the dime being the smallest does not make it easy either. :D

now that she works with money at her job, she's become more adept so i think it's just a matter of familiarity.

I hated the coins at first, it would make no sense to me that the dime was smaller than the nickel. In Brazil we have a big ''1' a big ''5'' a big ''10'' you know? plus they get bigger like the 1 is smaller than the 5 etc, like it is supposed to be. So at first, I wouldn't use coins at all, or I'd just throw a bunch of coins and tell the cashier to figure it out. It took me 2 days at work having to handle money to get used to them so I can even tell which is which with my eyes closed nowadays. My hubby said once ''you'll get used to them, it's easier than you think, it's just a matter to getting used to them'' and he was right :P . Makes so much sense to me now :bonk:
