Have you shared with Jinky yet that you would oppose her maybe wanting to sponsor her parents down the road but rather give that now existing opportunity to some business that is just looking to turn larger profits?
Still waiting for Steven's answer...

A conservative view is typically one that is guarded against change - status quo. You don't have to necessarily vote in that direction to have a position that is conservative (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

A conservative is one who is guarded against anarchy, not change.

A guest worker program would not be anarchy. It would bring order to the current chaos.

So you prefer the current state of anarchy over an alternative that will allegedly yield order?

I'd like to see Congress apply some of that anarchy to back taxes.

PS, we have guest worker programs. They're called HB visas.

How so? We currently have guest worker programs. And we have chaos. How would bringing in more guest workers under new and additional programs eliminate the chaos? What makes you think that one will eliminate the other?

What would the cost to the American tax payer be. The US has gone down this road before and it is not cheap..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

This issue has nothing to do with being a republican or democrat. First of all the country does not need any guest worker rubbish as it already has more than enough people to do the work. What this whole issue really comes down to is small to medium businesses wanting to pay illegals $2 an hour, and under, to work rather than having to do their bit and pay an American a fair wage. Consequently people like your Paris Hiltons acquire more wealth at the expense of your average Joe American..

What gets me is why is it so many pro-amnesty politicians refuse to back a exception to their proposal that prevents anyone who has committed other criminal acts in the US while being here illegally from applying for amnesty. Everyone else coming here legally can be denied entry yet there are a lot of pro amnesty senators who refuse to back such a clause..

There's nothing about this bill that's status quo.

But there's plenty about it that is back-room, closed-door railroading.

This is what happens when you get a bill that appears out of nowhere by a bunch of unlikely political bedfellows. It got shoved out onto the floor and cloture was voted before most of the senate had even had time to read it's mammoth 600+ pages. The consequent flood of over 100 amendments created a giant cluster-you-know-what and nothing was getting done fast.

Don't worry - it ain't dead - it's just sleeping.

As the governor of California might say - it'll be bahk.
