Unlimited power, or at the very least the perception of unlimited power, does tend to corrupt those that perceive having it.  Those of us in hoi polloi don't understand that the media and bureaucrats control us completely and we should respect that and react (vote accordingly), of course we thumbed our collective electoral noses at them and this is unacceptable.

In many ways what's going on goes to the heart of psychology.

Has anyone seen the Century of the Self videos? I'd recommend. Youtube "Century of the Self".. either in full or 4 parts.

If people thought the mindscrewing was finished after the Soviets, Freud/Marcuse, MKUltra, etc., they were quite incorrect.

The idea of "self" is constantly being manipulated to make people believe they are making conscious or informed choices when in fact they're making controlled and predictable choices that serve others who contrive ways of manipulating them.

For those on the left, who amusingly attempt to portray themselves as intellectuals: When you see no impeachment results, secret hearings, Democrats refusing to allow exculpatory testimony, and you see them, right in the faces of the public, using focus groups to study your reactions to certain words so they know what word manipulatively galvanizes you more (without concern for any actual *crime*), what does this make you think? 🤔

I have a very low opinion of the NHS but would still rank it above what happens in the US.

Somewhat frustrating that so much can be wasted, I sort of understand why, baked into the system, but still annoying.

Well before my time but I believe Medicare was in response to the expense issues associated with the elder population, I assume at some point something similar will happen for everybody else.

If more people understood just how little we get for our money and accept our medical system is awful, maybe we could get real change. We are 37..

I assume it will at some point, but so many things keep on going because so many are invested so most likely not any time soon.

So long as the populace is caught up with these sideshows, there's no reason to address critical issues like healthcare seriously.

Impeachment is THE issue.

The same reason Canadians and Brits come here and pay out of pocket,  perhaps?

The reason why Canadians and Brits come here is because:

A) they are rich enough to afford it (the average citizen though cannot)

B) they have a very complicated issue, a complex surgery needed, or a very rare disease

In many of these cases they aren't going to pick just any old hospital in the US either, that most of us have as our only choices. They are going to seek out renowned institutions of note and doctors with some serious cred.

Same reason why hopefully anyone would be more choosy about where they have such serious operations. Stuff involving complicated cancers, the brain, or heart require a great deal of skill. Thankfully we are lucky in this state to have so many good options... but I can imagine at some other hospitals in the US (like our local deathtrap) that you'd probably actually rather take your chances on the NHS vs that.

Our health care system works well for those who don't have to think about the cost.

So the headlines of the linked stories are misleading.  They implied that healthcare in the US is the worst among the first world countries they used for comparison.  However, people of means seem to choose the US for healthcare even though they could get it much cheaper in a socialized system.
