There's a chance we might move back to Australia...

John was approached by Xerox last week because they need senior help-desk people down under... we don't know anything concrete about it yet, but he said yes he was interested in finding out. He's been a xerox guy here for the last four or five months and he likes it, but he doesn't really like all the hours on the road getting from job to job. They said they need people in Perth (beautiful city but too far away from civilisation and my family!), Newcastle (ugh! Who'd want to live THERE?!) and Adelaide (bingo!) My family lives in Melbourne so it would be geographically ideal. You can get there in about nine hours drive or train, or 45 minutes on the plane. So I'd get to see my family again...

So we'll find out if this is actually feasable... The one disadvantage would be if it's a fixed-term contract and a temporary work visa and we were expected to come back here again afterwards. Not that I'd mind the move/s... but I've only just got my conditional greencard this year and leaving now would mean tossing it in the toilet and starting over when we came back again... and I'd also be concerned about taking John away from his siblings - his sister is in very poor health. :( But if that's what God wants us to do, then that's where we'll go...

Is it sad that one of the big reasons I'm thinking 'gee, that might be a good move to make' is that I could go back to the church system I'm used to, and which they don't have in the US? I've tried a bunch of churches here and I don't much like them...

Kajikit, if the move would be for less than two years, I believe you can apply for a re-entry permit that would not jeopardize your LPR status. Someone like Meauxna would know more about this, but it is possible. I believe that under certain circumstances you can even file the I-751 from overseas.

And even if it turned out to be longer than two years and you needed to "start over," at least you'd be in Australia and a DCF would be super-easy.

It sounds like a wonderful opportunity. Best of luck with whatever you decide. :)

Why would there be a temporary work visa... he couldn't get PR status in Australia through you... I'm sure their offer may be different if they knew that he could stay there full time...

Yes.. you can get a re-entry permit if you were to be in Australia for more than 1 year, but less than 2.

However, as pax mentioned, you'd be eligible to do DCF regardless anyways, so it wouldn't be nearly as difficult...

I don't know much about how it works... except that I looked at visas when we got married because we talked about moving back when I had my citizenship so we could both be duals... and I'm not eligible to sponsor him because I don't work, and my parents told us in no uncertain terms that they can NOT afford to sponsor him either. A working visa seems like our best shot, especially if the company will pay for it (we couldn't possibly afford it ourselves atm)

Anyway, it's just a vague possiblity atm and it might not be a good enough offer anyway. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
