I was dissapointed to search for news about today's holiday and had to go to page 5 of Google search to find results that were not about getting the mail or where you can go for free pancakes.  I think American vets need something more than a free Bloomin Onion.  Thank you to American and other nations veterans for your comment to preserving freedom.

 

Admittedly, Scandinavian countries have not done enough.

 

I did find this article on the post with a quote by MacArthur, obviously not a peacenik.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

If you read down in the story I posted, it appears that in 1993, Citizen Trump made a rather large donation to save this parade.

Pretty sure that Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc. all attended Veterans Day celebrations, so why is it meaningful that Trump attends one too? Seems like part of the job.

 

I have been in the UK twice during Armistice Day. It's an incredibly moving commemoration of the sacrifices the military have made there for their sovereigns and country. When you can see the signs of what they fought for in the very city you're living in -- there are still plenty of bomb sites around to remind you of what was lost -- it makes it feel perhaps even more immediate for civilians than it might otherwise, even as just a temporary resident. I am not from a military family, but I am nevertheless affected by and grateful for all the sacrifices made for our country.

My husband participated in a breakfast gala, serving hundreds of veterans this morning with a MIA dedication ceremony. These days I keep digging into my grandfather's time during WWII, and wonder about the nameless men that served with him in all the images that I have. Wonder if they made it through and what things were like.

I thought it was significant that President Trump was the first sitting President to attend the NYC Veteran’s Day Parade. Both he and Governor Cuomo put away the partisanship for the Veterans, so they also both put the Veterans first.
