Get married and do the CR1 

With a spouse visa he can work as soon as he finds a job here

and the CO is more likely to ask for a cosponsor 

The Costs for AOS after marriage in  the USA is going up from  $1225 to over $2100

all in all the cost of K1 is higher than the CR1

What if I go home fix my income, prove I have enough financials before the interview. Do you think then I have a fighting chance?

correct. basically fiance visa is better than tourist visa but less favorable than spouse visa for approval rate.

I wouldn't even put tourist visas in the same boat as a K-1 or immigrant visa. They are extremely different in their requirements and purposes.

We were just talking about approval rate. Ignored all other factors.
