How much is too much?

I buy a gift for the bridal shower, and usually give money at the wedding. I don't know if we are just cheaper down here but I think the normal range is like $30-40 for not very close friends, and $50-100 for very close friends or relatives. For my sister, I could see giving more to. But she wouldn't expect it.

I think $50 is a generous gift especially coming from young couples. But none of my friends are fancy or rich so maybe it's just my social group or something. And I have been in so many of my friends' weddings, the cost of the dress and being in the wedding can be outrageous, and then you also give a gift. I made sure my wedding wouldn't be so burdensome on my bridesmaids.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)
