NOA-1 (I-797C): Acknowledgement notice from USCIS that they receive the petition.

NOA-2 (I-797): Approval notice of the petition from USCIS.

One gets an approval email, if he/she signs up with USCIS website. Plus USCIS sends the approval notice my post, regardless one signs up with USCIS website or not.

Edited by simple_male

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

If your notice of action says "approval" on it, then it's the NOA2.

They are not needed for the interview. You can keep them with you for your own peace of mind, but the embassy/consulate will never ask you, if you bring them with you.

K visa holders need the snail mail NOA2 in order to adjust status but it is not needed for any visa interview. If you have an interview, they know you have an approved petition. NOA2 is just your notice of that approval.
