To each their own, but I think it sends a weird signal when you ostentatiously serve yourselves something that costs 15 times more than what you're serving your guests. I'm not saying everyone gets the fancy stuff. Weddings should (in my opinion) be about sharing in a moment where you feel most connected to your family and friends, where you are celebrating not only your union but your community, too. When you draw a line and say, okay plebs, you get this and we get that, it just seems... a bit tacky.

I'm not a fan of alcohol snobbery. Alcohol is alcohol, there's nice tasting ones and bad tasting ones. What one enjoys, may not be enjoyed by another. It's only a toast, it could have been no booze at all - and afterall it's a wedding, and someone else is paying for it.

My spouse and myself.  A good friend (I paid $50 for him to be a marriage commissioner for a day), his wife as a witness, and two of my wife's friends from work.  My wife cooked for us.  Very simple.  Nobody got upset.

 

I like simple.  And my buddy wore some goofy pop bottle glasses, which made it even funnier.

We had the simplest wedding we could get despite all the pressure and stupidity and us threatening to just elope from time to time. Because at the end of the day married is married... and a champagne toast is just fizzy alcohol that goes in one way and comes out another no matter how expensive it is. 

 

We like our local wines etc, but we are very partial to Coppola Wineries out of CA. I'm sure that is not high class enough for some though..

Hey, don’t denigrate the screw cap, a lot of higher end winery’s in Australia and New Zealand use screw caps.  My understanding is that a screw cap seals much better than a cork.  I often wonder about someone that pays thousands of dollars for a supposed excellent bottle of wine, what happens if they someday open it up and find it has turned to vinegar?

If anyone thinks I am above a screw top, they would be VERY mistaken!  I am not anti-cheap booze (hey, I used to be a student after all), I am just anti-gross cheap booze. There is plenty to drink that's delicious at every price point, whether it's got a cork or a screw top or in a plastic bag in a box or even in a can.

Have you had that? I have. It's... fine. Perfectly acceptable though nothing to write home about. The big thing it has going for it besides being pretty inoffensive (I have had far sweeter rose bubbles, yuck) is that cans are very light, and therefore cheaper to transport both personally and when being shipped. I'd put this can down to a piffling misdemeanor. This, on the other hand, should involve a firing squad:
