How long did it take you to get your docs AFTER approval?

Hi everyone,

long time lurker, first time poster! My fiancé was approved for his K1 after his interview in Montreal over 3 weeks ago. We still haven’t received word on his docs yet, and when we checked the status of his case online, it still said it was in processing.

my questions are: is this processing period normal? They didn’t mention the need for any additional docs or processing at the interview.

and how long did it take for your/your partner’s visa docs to arrive?

just want to make sure everything is still running smoothly :) thanks all!

What is the online status?  Administrative Processing is normal.  Cases are not approved until the status changes to "Issued".

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

It’s “Administrative Processing.” He was approved at his interview, so I’m just confused as to what this actually means — some sites said that the consulate would have told him or send him a letter if they needed to place his case in administrative processing. I’m glad to hear that it’s normal though!

All cases go through administrative processing can can take almost almost a month to clear, in our case our AP cleared only in a couple hours; but that is Slovakia. I don’t know Montreal does it but it could mean they found a paper that doesn’t add up or the officer needs more time to confirm everything. Patience patience patience, I know it’s hard immigration is a nerve killer but you will get there. A lot of times especially when it comes to visas they take until they very last day in this case being a month to the 30th or so day to update anything. Hang in there all should be fine!

Yes, Administrative Processing is completely normal......After administrative processing is complete, cases are approved......hopefully, very soon in your case....😃

Administrative Processing is standard procedure :) don't be alarmed so soon. Some consulates are faster than others, some people get their passports the very next day while others have to wait for weeks. Did the consular officer say anything after the visa was approved? Mine told me I'd get my passport within the next week or so and it arrived after 3 days only! He also told me that if I hadn't received anything within the next 10 days I could contact them.

All AP is different, there is no set time limit and it is standard procedure. You mention Montreal consulate, consider checking in at the Canada Regional Forum. No doubt there are people there with similar experiences as yourselves.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Hi all, just wanted to give an update. It's December 2nd and we're still in Administrative Processing. Like I mentioned before, my fiancé was approved at the interview, got the famous pink sheet of paper, and hasn't received any requests for additional documentation.

I sent Montreal an email asking if they needed anything, but it'll probably take a while for them to respond. It'll be 7 weeks in AP on Wednesday. Case was last updated on November 20th.

I'm terrified with all of these stories of people being stuck for months or years. My fiancé has a pretty clear-cut case and we've had a smooth process up until this point. No requests for evidence, petition was approved relatively quickly, he doesn't have a criminal record and is a Canadian citizen by birth.

I just don't know what could be taking so long. I know the holidays probably slowed things down for Montreal quite a bit, so that might explain it. I also saw that they moved offices earlier this month. We also had a joint sponsor because I started my job just a few months before, so that might mean extra processing. It just sucks and it's scary and disheartening to not know when this is going to end.
