Administrative processing K1 visa kept passport

Hi everyone, 

 

My Visa status changed from "Application received" to " Administrative processing" . They told me on the embassy interview that my Visa is approved and they kept my passport.

What does AP mean, How long will it take to receive my Visa and can they change they mind and deny it ?

Congratulations... So far everything is the way it should be... AP=Administrative Processing... It's the last step before your visa is issued... You don't have to do anything just seat tight and calm your nerves

This question as bee asked a thousand times. Please, before posting a question thumb through a few pages of history to see if it has been answered. If not then post your question.

 

A visa is not approved until issued and in your hands,. Do not make arrangement till you have the visa and have had the opportunity to review it for errors.  Safe travels.

The online status will jump back and forth between "Received" and "AP" and "Complete" or "Ready" a few times. Don't pay attention to any of those. You only care about one and final status "Issued". The visa is not issued until the status shows "Issued". 

 

The State Department warns not to make travel plans, sell your house, quit your job or make any other life-altering decisions until you have the visa in your hands.

AP covers all tasks necessary after the interview until the visa is issued. This can involve review of documents/document verification, supervisor review, background checks, etc. It's a normal thing. The fact that they took your passport is a good sign that they don't expect AP to take long. But nothing is guaranteed, for instance if additional background checks are necessary it could take a while. As others noted, don't make any firm plans until the visa is in hand and is correct.

All cases go through administrative processing......some cases and countries require a longer process..could be hours, days, weeks, or months.....be advised that approval is not official until the status changes to "issued"........

Everyone goes through AP. This is a normal process. Each embassy is different some sake longer then others. Because we don't know your embassy it's hard for us to opine. No once say with a certainty when you will receive your visa. Just have to have a little more patience.

 

We need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile.
