it would have added at least 10 hrs each way as every time we filled up we had a range of 500+ miles in about five minutes, For an EV charging 40-60 minutes would have netted us about 200 miles of range in ideal conditions.

Best idea I ever saw is go to the big parking lots like Walmart in Texas, NM, etc. where parking in the shade is a premium. Make covers over the parking areas with solar panels on them. Customers win because they get to park in the shade and the store wins from all the electricity generated. Now how to stop them from being stolen, vandalized, etc would be another issue.

At the university I frequent for football games, they actually did this in many of their more expansive parking areas.  The only drawback is during a thaw when the ice is falling off the solar roofs.

Key West leaders call new solar panel installation ‘an eyesore’

A few months before Key West’s new $19 million City Hall is set to open, two city commissioners say the solar panels there that double as carports in the parking lot have to go.

They’re ugly, say commissioners Margaret Romero and Richard Payne, who suggested relocation to the roof of the old Glynn Archer Elementary School gym behind the main building, 1300 White St.

“I’d like to see those solar panels relocated to rooftops,” Payne said, who called the panels “an ugly carport” and questioned whether they meet historic district zoning rules.

Y'all do realize that solar power is 98% of the reason we are experiencing global warming, right?  The sun's rays,  which would normally pierce the atmosphere, causing the air to heat to a small level as the rays pass and die when the hit the ground, are now being reflected back away from the earth, heating the air nearly doubly (about 95%), because the rays are not dying when they hit the soil.

So in a way, solar electricity production is a self-limiting energy source... as we see more solar panels installed, more electricity is produced, and the earth is warming ever faster.  Eventually, humans will begin to perish from the heat,  thereby reducing the energy needs, until a perfect balance is reached.  Science says this balance will happen in about 9°C or so.  Of course, none of us here will be alive to discuss it, but some who survive the sunpocalpyse will find this post, and will raise my name to new heights as a prophet.

I agree with you on the oil reserves, there more out there if you don't care about the environmental impact.

I disagree with the leveling power of subsidies. What you are not counting is the tax preferences provided to oil and gas. 37 billion in I investment is supported by 88 billion in federal, state and local subsidies. On top of that you have the cost of subjectcation if personal property rights to mineral rights in some states.   And then there is foriegn oil extraction: America troops defending foriegn oil wells, infrastructure and transportation and of course the blood shed defending these tyrants who do not respect Western values.

If you can show me the costs of defending windmills, solar and damns as outweighing the carbon cost, I will amend my opinion.

The gumbement makes way more per gallon of gas than the oil companies. How is that a subsidy ?

You won't regardless. Oil industry is not subsidized and green tech is. Oil depletion allowance? Yes. Subsidized? No. Green tech can't compete even with subsidies yet alone without. Should we look for alternatives? Yes but not governments job except to put their finger in and get their pay to play. The problems with green tech is not being addressed and until they address it adequately oil and gas is the way to go. Everything else is just a fraud and looks like you buy into it hook line and sinker. Nothing wrong with that but it means you are like every other sheep out there and follow the easily led crowd.
