You know what, actually, it still kind of weirds me out how little concern my parents seemed to have about the whole thing. It was all, "we trust you" and "you've always made good decisions in the past" and "whatever makes you happy." I was wondering where the "you're getting married at 23??" and "do you really want to enter into this when you've known the guy less than 2 years?" and "ARE YOU CRAZY?" were. From the start it was "wow, ok well, whatever you want to do. How can we help you?" I think maybe I should ask them about that...

Overall, they were cool with it. A year later, they LOVE my husband so they're def. very happy I brought him here :)

Hi Karen! I'm so glad things turned out that way for you! I know right after he got here it wasn't so easy.

They said positive things and were warm with my fiancee (that is what she was then) when she was here on her K1. But when we went into AP, I did not get much support from immediate family. I got lots of defense of the President and "its your own fault -- she's russian" as though AP was triggered by her nationality. (The fact that russians seem more likely to fall into AP at NVC was not relevant to them).

So, I'm wondering ....

I was terrified of bringing it up to my parents, but once I did they seemed pretty ok with it. They said "You're 20 years old, you can make your own decisions." After my fiance returned to his home country, though, they seemed much more ready to talk to me about how I should wait. My father's greatest concern is my education. He wants me to wait until after I'm out of college to get married, but since I'm going to school to become an English professor that's about four more years of school. I can't be apart from my fiance for that long! I know they like him alot, they're just scared I won't continue with my courses.

Filed: Lift. Cond. (apr) Country: Japan
Timeline

Our initial plan was to live in Japan- and when we told my parents that they accused me of trying to escape from my family by leaving the country? But they stopped thinking something as silly as that after some time has passed. NOW that we decided to live in the USA- HIS family is upset. They like me, but they're having a hard time accepting that he will be independant of them (which is not really a cultural norm for them- even moreso just within his family).

Luckily though, no one objected to WHO I/he was marrying- the objections were mostly centered around where we would live.
