I think my parents dont really understand the whole process. Thats great honey, hope you are happy. Hope he is the one for you (just like if I was to get married to anyone).

No one understands why it takes so long, and of course I am not going to go into details ...its more info then they really need.

My parents were frickin' ECSTATIC because it meant that I was coming back to America after nearly 12 years in Britain! Oh yeah, and they adore him too, which doesn't hurt, especially because we'll be effectively taking over their home for six months and demanding dinner on a regular basis while we acclimate to life in America. (Actually, sometimes I think they like him more than me... )

My brother...ooba-dooba. He was pretty much the only family member to think this was not a good idea, and actually had the gall to ask me if I had ever considered Bruce might be after a green card. This was 4 days before the wedding, on Christmas Day. I wanted to deck him. My brother's real problem is that I am leaving the UK just as he is moving to London with his family so he can attend university: "You live there for over a decade and now that I sell my house and quit my job to move there too you choose NOW leave?" Them's the breaks, big bro!

My mother's first reaction was to tell me I had been "dropped" from the family. LOL Fat chance since we live in the same house. Then, she asked me why I couldn't have married and American man. Um, been there, done that. Finally, after a few weeks, she adjusted to it and now listens to me when I talk to her about the immigration process and where we are at and what we are waiting for. My hubby and I got into an argument recently, yes we can do that online even. LOL When I told my mom about it, her response was, " Well, Tammy, What did you say that for? It's not his fault you were having a bad day". LOL Okay, so now she is taking up for him? I think it's great! LOL

My life has been blessed with the love of 4 of the sweetest men in the world. James, Jonathan, Nicolas, and Islam, my sons and my S/O.

OPSSSSSSS I DID IT AGAIN!

My family and friends have been very supportive.

For years I've been studying/living/traveling in South America, so I think a lot of my friends expected me to 'end up' with a Latin man.

My mom was glad that I was going to come back to the U.S. - that was what was most important to her. We met in Brazil and she was glad to hear our decision was to live here.

Once the immigration process was on a roll she was always curious and excited about what was happening. She had talked to him on the phone plenty of times (although quite difficult since he didn't know English).

My sisters were supportive but thought it a bit weird (but not in a bad way) that I was going to marry someone that they never met.

However...everything has worked out great!! Everyone LOVES Eliton and my parents get along great with him. It is apparent they are very happy with my choice of men (obviously ;) ).

They were surprised how quickly he became a part of the family and they're happy with his process of picking up the language.

well at first my mom was very pissed and couldn't believe i would "do this to her". "out of alllllll the people in the world you could have picked....(insert bad words here)......." then she went to being practical like jenn and alex. what will he do here? what if he doesn't like it here? won't he miss his mama? are you sure you're ready for marriage? etc, etc, etcccccccc!

my dad on the other hand, doesn't really know. i mentioned i met someone from one of my trips abroad and he called him a "boy toy" and i would forget about him. still not sure when i will tell my dad he's actually coming here SOON!

i hope once my fiance is here they will both love him after they get to know him. at this point he's just a mystery foreigner who is not very good on paper. lol

My parents love my husband and are happy that we are together. They were (and are still!) just perplexed that a Canadian has to go through immigration too, no matter how many times I explain the process to them  Back when Ron had been denied entry and was in Canada, my conversation with my mom went something like this:

Yes mom, I know that Canada is "right next door", but it IS a whole other country and Ron has to go through the process just like everyone else. No, he cannot just sneak across the border and marry me. That would be illegal. No, he doesn't get an automatic green card just for marrying me. Etc etc etc!

Well first of all both of my parents are deceased but they would say:

Are you out of your da.... mind? Havent you learned enough from previous marriages??? He is too young for you...you are educated, he is not...blah blah blah and those would only be the beginning...lol

wanted to add that he would just as soon me move to Morocco but health insurance would be a problem.

It is very freeing to realize you can do whatever you want to at that point...anyway

I have no kids; so that is no issue...neither does he. My brother was worried first that he wanted my money. When I told him Hamid would sign a prenup his next worry was--he is much younger...he will be gone in 5 years. I told him at least we would have fun for 5 years...IF that happened. He knows that I will do what I want...carefully. He has met Hamid online and liked him so we will see...

My niece has met him online..is happy for me. My nephew says do what makes you happy. SO I AM..sorry dont know this arabic keyboard too well...am in Marrakech with Hamid. My friends accept that we will get married...we will have a big blowout celebration bash when he gets to the USA.k THey are looking forward to meeting him.

I have to say his family is wonderful to me. So all in all...in the end...only God knows what will happen and time will tell us that.

Take care everybody...

This reminds me of a response from a fellow teacher in my school: " Why can't you just get married? Canada is our neighbour!" or the other one "He should just hop on a boat and come in the States like the other illegals do".

So many people think there isn't a border between the US and Canada and are very perplexed when they realise that yes...there IS a border.

My parents were very supportive. They knew about Suj for a couple years before the visa process even started, they had talked to him on the phone, etc. When I went to India to meet Suj, my dad came with me(Suj nor my family wanted me traveling there alone) and liked Suj a lot, so obviously they were happy about the whole thing. :P
