Got our test date, does that mean no interview?

Anyhow. We got a letter that SO will be given his citizenship test in early December (at a city 5hrs away, of course). The guy at the biometrics place said he'd take the test and then get a notice to be sworn in as a citizen. Does this mean he does not have to be interviewed, or is the interview part of the testing process? I know our letter asked for a number of document, even my own birth certificate. I'll likely just bring everything, but should we expect an interview? The test will be administered at the Pittsburgh office, if that makes a difference. Thanks.

I have never heard of someone only going through the testing without some form of an interview?  In general, the interview is really just a verification of the information on the N400 form, so maybe that will be conducted at the same time.

As to applying online, YMMV, as it really depends on the workload of the local office handling the individual cases.  In our case my wife filed on paper and was naturalized in less than six months.

Good Luck to your SO!

Yes, one and the same.

There are several parts of a N-400 interview, including some testing:

1. A US history/Civic test: this is booklet they give you that have 100 questions. They will ask 10 and you need to get 6 right.

2. An English language test: you will be asked to read one sentence and write one sentence in English.

3. A quasi pseudo interview where they basically asked questions based on the information provided on the N-400 submitted, questions such as: Have you even been an prostitute? Have you ever supported any Nazi Party? Been convicted of a crime? War crime? Do you support the Constitution of the United States of America ? What about the flag (and the Republic for which it stands)?... They will go over the times spent outside the US and counting days to make sure the days are good. If you apply based on the 3 years rule, they may ask some more questions and/or request to see some evidence that you still stay in "marital union" with your spouse for the past 3 years....

Then if everything is good, they will recommend for approval and you will get a mail later for the oath ceremony.

I live on the WV/KY border so yes, it is a 5+ hour drive. There's more to WV than what's north of Charleston.

If you must.... it's around 5 hours but that's with no traffic. https://goo.gl/maps/1k9ddjyrtb5acEuL8

Yikes. I'd forgotten how rude people could be on these forums. It's unfortunate.

Ok, that wasn't a put down. I apologize if it came across that way. It was not intentional is what I am trying to say. Anyway I hope you got your answer.

One more thing I forgot to mention is that there are hundreds of video on youtube on the N-400 interview including some made by USCIS to show how the interview will take place. Check them out. Also, there are classes and self-help groups usually at a local church or immigrant advocacy center to help prepare for the N-400 interview.
