I've told you all this already. Make the U.S a cashless society and the problem goes away. How much money can it cost to slap a credit card machine on an ice cream truck?

What does "no significant criminal record" even mean when it's just going to be overlooked that many of the illegals have and are committing ID theft, for example? Any American that has comitted the same crime will be held to account for that. And the punishment will be far above that 9K mark, we're discussing here. So, what does "no significant criminal record" really mean under those circumstances? It means nothing. Well, nothing other than the illegals being afforded an amnesty.

We're not even looking to deport those that have already been ordered deported and have since evaded that deportation order. Any American fugitive will be arrested as soon as law enforcement gets a hold of him. But not those fugitives. hey will instead be rewarded with papers and the opportunity to remain here. How that is not an amnesty is way beyond me.

Solutions? Anyone here got a reasonable solution? I'm all ears.

So, you're in agreement that what's proposed is an amnesty?

I agree with the notion that anything short of letting them stay here is not rational.

Do you think it's rational to be seriously talking about deporting 11 million people?

steven, if the usa raises the fines on employers to where it's not worth the risk, and also imposes fines are who rent to illegals, this will cut off their money supply. they will self-deport.

eta: i see you lowballed the number here.......not surprising.

Enforcement of hiring practices sounds reasonable, but any type of mass exit of that many people is not rational - it would be a humanitarian crisis. You seriously wouldn't consider offer work visas for those who've been here for more than 5 years?

I wouldn't. Deport them all, I say. If we don't actually enforce our laws and deport the deportables, nobody is EVER going to respect our immigration laws.

I'm sick of this bleeding heart cr@p. #### compassion. Show them the door.

Such is the politics of fear, and if it is deplorable, it is also effective.

I am still curious about how calling this bill amnesty invokes fear in anyone. I mean, are they not already in the US?

because it implies giving millions of illegals a pass. a slap on the wrist and they have a path to citizenship. while many think this is all this failed bill was slated to do, there are many more requirements to said "path" than the real amnesty in the 80's.

1. A humanitarian crisis for whom? The illegals? Who cares! They took their chances when they came here illegaly and now it's time they paid the price.

2. I would offer anyone a work visa as long as they do it from the country they came from. I wouldn't care if they were here for 20 years. If they are here illegally then they go home!

I ask you this, why should these gate crashers get special treatment? We have some here in VJ that are dealing with 3 and 10 year bans because of illegal presence. Yet you want to let these people just stay? Your values are very off base dude.

Oh, and one more thing. You do understand that by taking the position you are taking your on the side of the evil big business that you are always complaining about?

If you want to argue, then try to...blurting emotional rhetoric and insults at those who don't agree with you isn't adding anything to the discussion.

And with all your wisdom and foresight, just exactly how would you deport that many people...start first with how you you'd round them up, followed by where you'll put them.

Well no, not me, but there are many who think ooooooh scary illegals are going to get legalized!!! People are afraid that illegals with criminal pasts will get the slap on the wrist, and the even more extreme will even be afraid of the illegal who was a child when brought here - now to be on a path to legalization. According to some, they all should go home regardless of the situations they find themselves in. scary, angry, furious - whatever works.

The solution has been stated over and over yet you keep ignoring it. Enforce the labor laws! Make it so hard for them to find work that they will go home on their own!
