The Bhutan family: $5.03 for a week of food? Wow that's stretching the budget.

Well, they're not stretching the budget, they either don't have enough good to spend more, or they don't have enough money to buy more. Also, the value of food in these poor countries are very different. A pound of potatos may cost 2 dollars in one place and 0.50 cents at another country.

The most interesting thing to me was seeing how some countries tend to eat more vegetables, fruits and fresh stuff in general as opposed to countries like US and UK.

Oh, and the meats too, the richer, the more amount of meat.

I'm sure there is a translation for the American audience at work here, I never heard of anyone eating a mayonaisse sandwich, however Salad Cream sandwiches are common, and mayonnaise is probably how they translated Salad Cream (even though its not the same thing).

Hmm.. of course they could just be weird. I don't see any Salad Cream in that picture, but there is a big jar of Hellman's!

True. The cost of living is different in different countries, and if $5 a week in the U.S. doesn't seem like whole lot, it may very well be plenty of money in Bhutan.

My friend actually posted these pictures in her livejournal a couple months ago, I really enjoyed it. It is funny, but the people in poorer countries seem to eat healthier food than folks in industrialized countries
