No, the extension letter and expired greencard are proof of your status, if presented TOGETHER. USCIS will not give you a stamp until your extension letter is about to expire. So right now you have at least 18 months left before that happens.

Thank you, for that clarification.

My green card will expire the beginning of February.

I remember you too! Good luck!

I have been dreading calling USCIS but I’ll have to do it. Couldn’t find any info about my situation online, their website and “Emma” were useless. 😑

I know for sure that the 18 months extension letter clearly states that you should travel with your expired green card along with the letter.  Not sure if the stamp alone aljng with the letter will do the job.  Although I think it should.  Schedule an infopass and see what they have to say, or call USCIS :D

Good luck!

If you have one of these three options you're perfectly fine to travel:

1. valid greencard

or...

2. expired greencard AND valid extension letter (must travel with BOTH)

or..

3. i-551 stamp in passport

Ansbekk was replying to me because my situation is different and I have neither of those 3.

I don’t have my green card on me, my stamp expires when the lost green card does and now I have an extension letter.

I’ll be calling USCIS tomorrow to hopefully shed some light on this mess.

Yep, immigration wise there's no problem at all to travel, but some people just have bad anxiety and stress that stops them from doing regular things in life.

I don't know how anyone can handle CBP. I haven't really had big issues yet, but I'm always worried they won't let me in lol. 😬

Every interaction I've had with CBP has been polite, courteous and efficient. I don't doubt that some people have bad encounters but, I can't understand why you're so concerned unless you're giving them reason to be concerned?

You've got great advice from everyone, you *can* travel while in the ROC process so long as you have sufficient documentation (extension letter, green-card whether expired or unexpired etc).

I’m easily intimidated I guess. After going into secondary questioning once while traveling I've been wary. That was nerve racking.

I got a call from an immigration officer and was able to schedule an Infopass appointment for December 23rd.

Just slightly worried because I was told to bring my I-90 receipt notice (lost GC) which I do not have. I don’t remember getting one. What I have is a biometrics appointment notice for the same application which I hope will suffice.
