homesick - fear is fear, and nothing that anyone says mitigates that. difference between humans and some gazelle on the african plain is that humans can choose to deal with their fear, be it an attacking preditor or a cross atlantic plane ride. saying the fear doesn't exist is wrong, choosing to deal with it is right. if anything stands out to the courage of spouses, it should be the testimate of the loved ones who go through the immigration process. as a sci-fi fan, the only words of wisdom are those writen by frank herbert in dune:

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fear's path, and only I will remain.

only you can conquer your fears, not by words of another or chemicals to condition your mind

I agree. Flying fist class, although expensive, is definitely a less stressful experience. It may be a big load of money (or miles?), but the car that takes you to the airport, the luxury departure and arrival lounges, the 3 course meal, and laid back seats get me every time. I also find it easier as I'm not surrounded by so many people and it feels more like a journey rather than a horrendous cramping experience. Hey, let's face it -- you may as well leave the UK in style seeing as it's such a monumental step for you. A new start into a more positive part of your life? Poodle around and see what options there are for upgrading! You may as well suffer in style.

Edited to add: My friend suffers from terrible flying anxiety and she always gets upgraded when flying. Worth a shot, for sure?

I agree with this. Some women will at times want someone just to listen to them as it helps straighten out things in their minds. I do it, I know lots of women do it. I saw this post as more of a venting post than a 'come help me figure something out' post. those of us who gave advice were just showing that we listened and cared.

Before my last flight to England I was so terrified I was breaking out in hives, crying, panicking, dreading... I made a post here about it, part venting, part help me find a solution, part tell me I will be ok. It helped. My hives went away and I wasn't as scared anymore. (my fear went from 11 down to 10 )

In the initial post, did Homesick_American even ask for help?

If not though, is three weeks' accommodation in waiting for the next sailing too much to pay for as compared to your distress? I'm not scared of flying, but I am arachnophobic and I would do anything over sitting next to a spider for 10 hours

HA, good luck...I don' have any suggestions for you because I too have an irrational fear of flying...albeit not as severe as yours. I just pray a lot, take a tranq & drink G&Ts on the plane.

It's actually not the flying that bothers me, it's the take off and the alt climb. I usually am clutching my armrests, praying my backside off lol and have my eyes sewn shut until we level off....

I am a Texan and I thought I would add a few comments on my personal experience to possibly help get you here to the Lone Star State.

At one point in my life I had a fear of flying; which was not good since my job requires 75% travel. I finally realized I did not have a fear of flying I had a fear of dying. When I was able to come to grips with the fact that I have lived a good life, that I am happy with my life, that dying was going to be an eventual part of my life; I was able to make peace with myself that being afraid of it wasn't going to change anything. All being afraid of dying was doing was making my time alive less enjoyable and adding misery unnecessarily.

Now I am able to look past the actual plane ride and forward to the activities that will be occurring in my life once I arrive at my destination. I have even been able to start looking forward to the plane flights as a time to take a break from my hectic life and get some rest. Many times I can now fall comfortably asleep before we even take off, other times I fall asleep during the flight and am awakened by the landing.

Good luck with your journey and know that there are fellow Texans wishing you well and looking forward to your arrival. B)

She can accuse me of saying she trafficked drugs (I didn't) & she gets no warning....

Yet I can't reply to her post that a doc never lied for her to get meds? She even said so in post #26. She admits she gets drugs illegally as well...?

And no, she never did reply as to why she called her issue out (by making a post) if she wanted no help.

Devilette ~ To have let your posts remain would have been to allow an argument to continue, hence they were removed as I explained in my previous post. Trading insults back and forth (unfounded or not) does nothing to further this topic or enhance the enjoyability of VJ as a whole. I'm afraid I do not see this thread as you do, therefore any continuance on this particular issue of it will result in this thread being closed. I informed the Captain about this last night.

I think many people here completely understand WHY H_A started this thread, me included. Sometimes people just need to talk about their fears and get them out in the open a little more, it isn't always a "tell me what I can do!" type thing.

H_A, is an acquaintance on the board, that is all. I treat her EXACTLY the same as I treat everyone. I will look at a thread as a whole, NOT at the people involved in it.

If you have any further issues please take them to PM and do not continue to de-rail this thread any further. Thankyou.
