Also, did any of you change your name? I did mention in my application that I would like to change to my married name. Will that delay the process? 

I applied under the 5 year rule, so there was not much that I submitted (though I submitted more than asked, just in case)
I brought all the originals, but was only asked for my GC, ID and passport, along with the interview letter.

I did request a name change when filing, but at the interview I decided not to do it. I read it leads to delays sometimes because of the need of a judicial ceremony, which are not held as often as the regular ceremonies. And, as you may already know, I'm quite an impatient person, lol. Nah, I wasn't 100% sure to begin with, so I decided to leave it as is, and change it later if I really want to.

I did not change my name as I applied it with the basis of my name when I got married (Husband's last name).

 

I was told that name change will make the oath ceremony date scheduled at a later date vs no name change at all.

Oh! With so many documents in my maiden name, I didnt want to change and go through the process of updating all of them after I got married. My thought was to wait until I became a citizen and when I saw the option in the application, I guessed it was the easiest way to do.

 

I really hope it wont delay the process too long

Yeah, I am kinda not 100% if I want to change, just cause, I have had that last name for so long  Sometimes, I do use my husband's last name since its easier for people to pronounce/write than my last name. I might ask the officer during the interview and if he/she says it would delay the process, I might decide to change it at a later stage.

@ak_2018I have a friend in Louisiana that had her interview the same day as mine. She too had her citizenship approved on the spot. She told me that she requested a name change...and...guess what? She said that she already received her oath ceremony date and it is for next week Friday at 1:15pm. So I guess, we really do not know. I also was speaking to my Lyft driver this morning and he too just got his citizenship approved 2 months ago. He said he requested a name change and it took him 7 months before he got an Oath Ceremony date. I guess you will never know exactly? Maybe it is really depending on where you file and how fast that facility is and the amount of people that are applying for citizenship etc?

Gah. So I was minding my own business and tried to make it BAU (business as usual) day, remind myself that I should not check the USCIS website every hour or so 🤣just like @Poulette. BUT suddenly I got a text message and email saying that they have emailed me my oath ceremony date! 

 

Can't see the actual date yet but I will refresh ever so often now

Oath ceremony date has been received. It is scheduled on February 26th at 8:00 am! 🥳

Awesome!! What a great feeling to be almost done with this long, long journey! 😀

 

I lost my hopes of having my oath in February. I know this month ceremonies are held on the 20, 21, 27 & 28, twice a day. But since I haven't heard by now, I think I'll have to wait for the last two weeks of March, if lucky. The officer at my interview said to wait 90 days, anyway. I am just hoping it was one of those exaggerated estimates. 😬

It is a great feeling for sure! My interview officer told me that I will get a letter in 30 days on on the ceremony date 😏. Online when I checked, still said I will be done by May 2020 still.

 

Don't give up. You may be surprised. I updated the google sheet and added month to completion formula to mine and member user that had the oath ceremony date scheduled. I suck in calculating manually 😜 - hopefully others will find it useful as well.
