The National Security Council's top Ukraine expert testified Tuesday that the White House memo of President Trump's July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "omitted crucial words and phrases," the New York Times reports.

Why it matters: Trump has pointed to the memorandum as proof that Democrats' impeachment inquiry against him — spurred by his call with Zelensky — is a "con job." Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman's testimony did not mention the motive of the White House in omitting key references to the Bidens and Burisma Holdings by Trump and Zelensky.

• Vindman, a decorated Iraq War veteran, is the first official from the White House who listened to the phone call between the two leaders to testify.

National Security Council adviser Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman testified Tuesday that the White House transcript of a call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine's leader omitted key words and phrases, the New York Times reported Tuesday night. Vindman said he attempted to restore some of the omitted material but failed, the Times reported. Vindman testified behind closed doors Tuesday in the House impeachment inquiry. Vindman reportedly said two of the omissions were Trump talking about his belief that there were recordings of Joe Biden discussing Ukraine corruption, and a reference by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky to Burisma Holdings, the energy company that Hunter Biden was on the board of and that Trump wanted investigated. Vindman did not offer a motive as to why his corrections to the transcript were not heeded, the Times said.

You are missing the point, the transcript of the conversation is not fully public because serious omissions are in the transcript. Ergo: the transcript as released cannot exhonrate the Pres.

I did not miss the point at all.  You call it a transcript, and the Leftist news sources you quoted also call it a transcript, it was never a transcript of the call, simply a summary of the notes put together.  All we have seen is a bunch of folks paraded to Schiff's underground lair in an attempt to find an impeachable offense to sell to the other members of the House.  Everything said and leaked selectively by Schiff is simply just opinions which we all have.  If having a phone call with a world leader and asking for a favor is wrong, every President should have been impeached.  Still no quid pro quo even though that doesn't matter, heck Biden gave the Ukraine just a few hours to axe a prosecutor or money was going to be withheld. Some might call that blackmail, but I suppose it was OK since Old Joe is a Democrat.  I will say, I am enjoying the Pelosi/Schiff circus.

Yes I would feel the same way. The call is not the same as destroying evidence, Meeting the AG on a Tarmac to change an investigation, willfully mishandling classified info etc etc

Trump said the call summary was "a word-for-word transcript."  Of course, that was just another one of Trump's lies.  We won't go into Trump's childish description of the phone call as "perfect".

 

Schiff leaking?  If the Republicans had even a scintilla of exculpatory evidence, they would have made it public in a heartbeat.  The problem is that there isn't any.  

 

Opinions?  There is a mountain of corroborating evidence for the whistleblower's allegations.  And it's growing every day.

 

A favor?  Undermining national security in order to further your personal political goals is a gross abuse of power.  The last President to do that was Nixon.  

 

Blackmail?  Biden was simply carrying out an Obama administration policy which was supported by the European Union, the IMF and others.

So how was this any different than what Trump did?  In his case, the quid pro quo wasn’t even there as he, a President like Obama, didn’t even threaten to withhold anything from the Ukraine.  You can argue that there were political overtones in either case.

 

Btw, I didn’t say what Biden/Obama did was an impeachable offense.  I would imagine these types of things happen all the time when one government wants another government to do something.
