My fiance called NVC today and got our invoice number and case number! She was also informed to expect an email with any further instructions. Checking our case number on the CEAC site gives this less than helpful message:

Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) that list the six steps you must take before NVC can schedule your visa interview appointment. This includes submitting to NVC various fees, forms and documents

Having done some searching on the forum, it seems this doesn't apply to K1 visas and is just the prompt given due to the K1 being both an immigrant and non immigrant visa.

My question to anyone more experienced in the matter is: Is there anything else we need to do at this stage or is it, as we assume, just a matter of waiting for the embassy to receive it?

I think all we can mainly do now is wait until it gets sent to the embassy. You could do the Ds-160, although I hear people advise that you should wait until you received Packet 3

Well you could determine when your file will ship to your embassy. Then you can use the DHL hack to trace your package to your country. You can now complete the DS-160 as it is tied to nothing except to use the confirmation to schedule your interview and then to present to the CO at your interview.

And yes that does not apply to K-1's.

Good advice. I think we'll wait, just on the off chance the invoice number is written down wrong or anything!

Awesome, thank you for confirming! I believe it's going to be sent on the 10th December looking at the dates, will be applying the 'hack' then ;) . Some wonderful advice from this forum for this whole process.

Again, thank you so much! I'll take a look through all of these this weekend in preparation. We're planning to start sending everything from my fiance to myself once we've got the confirmation that our case is headed to the consulate.

Really appreciate the work you've put together for myself and others.

So my fiancé and I just got our NOA2 on Nov 26th, sadly he just had a health issue that forced him into quitting his job to start treatment and therapy. He is no able to work right now and when he is able to, he will need to find a new job. The whole therapy and recovery might take a couple of months and we are honestly concerned about the embassy interview and getting denied because he is not employed right now, I will have his tax returns from this year and the previous ones and his dad agreed to be used as a co sponsor (he meets the requirements and his income is above the 125% poverty level), when is the latest we could do the embassy interview with our NOA2 date? We would like to postpone it as much as we can until he is able to have a full time job again, does anybody have any recommendations on what is our best option or what should we do in this current situation?

Each embassy is different you may find those from your country/region can help. Find the sub-forum under "forums" tab then 3/4 of the page down you will find the links. A letter from his physician addressed to the embassy would do a lot of good to have your NOA2 extended. The NOA2 is good for one year and the embassy is responsible in extending it in 4 month inquirements. Each embassy is different in how they handle co-sponsors. Some will except where others may not. That would be another question for the country specific thread. Good luck and I hope things work out for you and he.

Yeah tbh they told us that we shouldn't bother calling before the 6 week mark when we called on a Friday. Then we called the following Monday morning and we had our case number and such. Turns out it had been assigned that Friday that we called (we called at 7pm est).

It's their normal response/time frame.

I would call tonight and tomorrow if you really want to know.

I mean it doesn't speed things up but it's nice to hear progress on your case.
