Tax question

Hi,

 

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this questions, but i have  a question regarding tax filing. untill now, me and my husband had file tax jointly. As there is a change in job (self-employed), we should be paying estimated tax for that its going to be filed separately as my spouse gets w2 (tax is deducted from pay). So in this case, will it be fine to file tax return jointly or even that should be separately?  Or should file estimated tax jointly (even though spouse's pay gets tax deducted) ? If filed separately, will there be issue for my naturalization which is under process ?

 

Really confused, anyone with similar experience please help ?

Go see a qualified accountant.  How things goes will depends on the ownership form of your business - individual, joint, LLC, S corp, etc.  

 

You and your wife can file a joint return.  You can make a joint estimated tax payment.

 

This is not an immigration problem.  This is a tax problem which is best addressed by an accountant.

For the purposes of N400, under a 3 yr rule:

- Filing jointly v/s separately is not an issue as you maybe getting a bigger refund in one case v/s the other

- What's important is that you have filed your taxes as a Resident & paid your dues 

- You should focus more on being able to convince that the marriage is "Bona Fide"
