My husband just got his canadian spousal visa and will be moving there in a few weeks. We also just recieved notice that our i130 is approved. our goal is to live here in America, so we want to be together in canada until he gets his visa for the US (im assuming a few months). once hes in canada who do we have to notify about his change of address? will it make the process longer?  does anyone know how long it will take until hes issued a visa? how do we check the priority date? also if someone can direct me to  a checklist of documents which i can start to prepare for NVC, that will be much appreciated. thank you so much

His priority date is the date UDCID received the I 130 .. you’ll find this on the NOA 1

How did he get a spousal visa for Canada if he's married to an American citizen?

Okay.  Just keep in mind that the consulate in Montreal is known to be strict on the domicile requirements, so your plan to live there could be impacted by that.

There are many posts on VJ about domicile requirements for Montreal.  If you search, you will find them.  If your petition is still with the NVC, try contacting them to change the embassy it gets dispatched to for the interview.

A few months would be miraculously fast.  Montreal is notoriously backed up on interviews, and as a Pakistani, he will likely encounter the same background/AP issues he would in Islamabad.

To move your case from one embassy to another, you will have to prove that your husband has legal status in Canada. Once you have enough documentation (which may include: Canadian visa, Driving license, Bank details, etc.) then you will have to write an application to NVC, using this form: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html?wcmmode=disabled

Once processed, NVC will notify the new case number through email.

P.S: Don't wait for NVC reply and keep uploading your document to CEAC as everything will remain the same, only new case number will be generated.
