Hey guys,

This is my first time writing here, however been reading the blog and stories for along period now and I can say it is an encouraging/hopeful blog for a lot of immigrants.

So here is my story... I got married in 2014 and in 2015 got my first interview where I`ve received the conditional green card. Two years later, 2017, I`ve applied for my permanent green card.

While pending, i`ve decided to apply for the citizenship (N400) as eligible to do so in 2017 as well.  Unfortunately, for the permanent green card was requested RFE which extended the period. in the meantime I got scheduled for the citizenship interview, while pending permanent green card, in September 2018. Me and my wife, went to the interview and I was told by the officer I need to get my permanent green card first in order to do the citizenship interview. Was scheduled second interview for my permanent green card in February 2019 which all went well and now I got the permanent 10 year green card.

Since then, I ve contaced USCIC numerous times. Speaking with different officers, most of the advised my case for the citizenship is pending. I`ve contacted the local office in Newark, NJ also, and received basically the same response.

I have a bad feeling that my citizenship case is somehow stuck in the mud, however, just wanted to hear if anyone else has been in a similar situation or know someone who has been through similar route. It is a very frustrating period in the unknown.

Thank you for reading and keep this blog alive!

Best Regards

I recommend to contact your US representative, senator, or the CIS Ombudsman office.

Thank you for your response. That was something that came to my mind as well, since I`ve already sent a letter via mail to the Newark`s office two months ago, and was basically told the same thing, that my status is pending.

I filed my I-751 (10 years Green Card) case on Feb-2018 and N-400 on Jan-2019, at this moment I I got approved on Oct-2019 for my I-751 case (Green card on hand and NO combo Interview)  and I was waiting for my N-400 decision, but one week ago I got a massage on my online inbox from USCIS that due to unforeseen circumstances they had to cancel my previously scheduled interview on June 05-2019 (my first N-400 interview I passed Civics, government and historic questions )  that they will rescheduled interview appointment information under separate notice, then I checked the status of my case and it seems like they send me a new notice with my new interview appointment for Dic 2 -2019, I don't know if I will need to do all again (civics and government questions) I hope you hear back soon from USCIS.

Not sure if I misunderstood something or if one of the dates above is a typo, but if you only got your green card in 2015 how were you eligible to apply n400 in 2017? Was the GC right at the beginning of 2015 or something like that?

It was not a typo. I got married in 2014. In 2015 I received my conditional green card. For the citizenship application, you can apply while your pending the permanent green card, as long as you are 3 years in marriage. As such, I sent out my citizenship application, which in really did not help.

You also need to have had your green card for 3 years (less 90 days for filing). Which brings me back to the question above, 2015 to 2017 is not three years unless you got your conditional GC at the beginning of 2015 and could file 90 days before the 3-year anniversary near the end of 2017.

You can apply 3 years, less 90 days, from the resident since date on the green card.

Contacting the ombudsman's office should move it along.
