From what I understood, when you fill the Choice of Agent thing, unless you have a lawyer or you live in the desert like a nomad, the beneficiary is the Agent. When I got the papers from NVC, there was a scheme with the papers sent to the petitionner and the papers sent to the Agent.

So, I, the French citizen, got the IV fee papers and guess what? You can only pay if you have a bank account in the US. I had to send the papers to my husband in the US because he is the only one who can pay.

Such a loss of time. We already lost a month with this BS.

You should have chosen your husband as the agent on the DS-3032. Otherwise, you run into problems like this, not to mention mail that travels outside of the U.S. by monthly tramp steamer.

I would e-mail NVC and ask to amend your choice of agent, designating your husband.

Meh

Oh and I forgot to say that in the letter, they don't mention anywhere that you'll have to pay some fees and you can only do so IN the US. They just say that mail can be lost or some places in the world are hard to access so you can name a church or a lawyer.

It's not very clear but lesson learned.

Yeah.

I suspect I am going to have to name myself (a beneficiary), the agent.

My hubby is desperately unfit to do paperwork... even for my sake :P He is so disorganized. Sometimes I wonder how he survives

In my French experience post usually takes 7 days versus 3 days in the States. It is not too bad.

I have my US bank accounts to pay the bills too.

Or am I being a fool and I should trust that my man buckles down and do things right and on time?!

Why could not your SO just write a check and mail it to you and then you mail it to the embassy? I will have to go through somewhat similar situation as you do now.

My husband is not extremely disorganized, I'm just a control freak ;)

Still, I did choose him to be the agent and I send him emails with checklists of what exactly he needs to do. And then I harrassed him about whether he did what I said he should do ;)

It saves a LOT of time, as my DS-3032 took about over three weeks to get here.

Also: with the CR-1/IR-1 no money goes to the embassy, it goes to the NVC.

Yeah.
